Position Duties

This is a temporary (Overstrength) position that is anticipated to be funded through June 30 2026 subject to further extension as appropriate. If this position is not extended through the budget process the City may seek to place you in other internal job opportunities based on your previous work experience.


The City of San Jos is seeking an AI and Privacy Analyst to play a central role in the development coordination and deployment of responsible artificial intelligence efforts. Working within the AI and Privacy Office the Analyst will partner with internal stakeholders and external research organizations to transform AI research into practical ethical and scalable solutions that enhance City services. This position requires a blend of technical proficiency analytical skills policy acumen and the ability to build consensus across diverse teams and jurisdictions.


The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing and evaluating machine learning models as well as demonstrated success in facilitating collaborative projects. The AI and Privacy Analyst must be able to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences craft data governance and privacy guardrails and design and facilitate engagement programs that drive adoption and trust in AI to staff and the broader community.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the Citys responsible AI roadmap. It brings together research policy technology and community engagement to deliver innovative public-sector solutions.


Please note that the AI Analyst I/II position is currently eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. The schedule for working remotely and onsite is subject to change.


Salary Information: The final candidates qualifications and experience shall determine the actual addition to the starting salary employees in the Analyst I/II classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.


Annual Salary Range (including the 5% NPWI):


The Analyst I/II classification is represented by the Municipal Employees Federation (MEF) bargaining unit.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Acceptable Substitution:Additional years of experience in a position comparable to the Staff Specialist with the City of San Jos in areas such as budget finance grant administration organizational analysis general administration or human resources may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.
