Description of Work


Position is funded in part through federal funds.

**Position is eligible for a hybrid-teleworking schedule to include weekly onsite work hours**

The Employment and Independent Professional Development (EIPD) Division is seeking a dedicated Vocational Instructor to provide occupational and vocational training to incarcerated individuals with disabilities at Foothills Correctional Institution. This role supports EIPDs mission to equip individuals with the skills needed for competitive employment upon release and ensures compliance with the Divisions Third-Party Cooperative Agreement with the prison.

This position plays a vital role in preparing individuals for workforce success by delivering hands-on training fostering appropriate work behaviors and supporting participants in developing the skills necessary for long-term independence and community reintegration.

Key Duties (include but are not limited to):
  • Deliver occupational and vocational training tailored to individuals with disabilities in a correctional setting.
  • Teach appropriate workplace behaviors including productivity teamwork and safety awareness.
  • Evaluate inmate readiness for employment through observation of skills productivity and work behaviors.
  • Manage job setup workflow and quality assurance to ensure effective training outcomes.
  • Provide structured curriculum-based instruction and hands-on skills development.
  • Document the provision of services in alignment with each consumers rehabilitation plan.
  • Ensure compliance with all NC Department of Public Safety policies and institutional regulations.
  • Collaborate with EIPD staff and prison administration to coordinate vocational training efforts.
  • Maintain accurate training records attendance logs and progress reports.
  • Promote workforce readiness and support successful reentry planning for program participants.

Bachelors degree in a human services or business field such as human resources marketing business administration business management healthcare management or public administration from an appropriately accredited institution;
OR
Associates degree in a human services or business field (identified above) from an appropriately accredited institutionand two years of directly related work experience;
OR
High school or General Educational Development (GED)and four years of directly related work experience;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
