Job Description:
The Oak Hill United School Corporation is seeking a school nurse to travel between Converse Sweetser and Swayzee Elementary Schools to work with a school population of about 800 students. The school nurse works to assess educate and intervene as needed to provide a healthy school environment. The school nurse works closely with the Grant & Miami County Health Departments as well as state health agencies to maintain compliance and provide a comprehensive health program to the school.
Primary Function:
The School Nurse helps students attain an optimum level of physical social and emotional order to coordinate a comprehensive student health program the School Nurse works closely with school staff and administration.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive health program for all students parents and staff of the school corporation
- Work with local and state health agencies to provide daily care to ill or injured students.
- Collect and manage medical and health information for students
- Administer medications and monitor delegated medication administration
- Monitor appropriate storage and safety/ lock of medications
- Perform state mandated screenings and prepare reports as required by the State of Indiana
- Conduct student health screenings for students vision and overall health
- Accurate entering of data needed for state reporting including immunization records and vaccine exemptions
- Identify health problems with students in grade PK-6 and recommend appropriate follow up to parents
- Provide exceptional communication to students and parents regarding the health requirements and the needs of required school records such as immunizations and current doctor orders for health care procedures
- Maintain accurate and detailed health records on each student in the corporation
- Insist on developing school health programs for all students in the building
- Provide training to teachers and staff concerning the teaching of health care techniques for certain children with identified health needs
- Cooperate with families healthcare providers and school staff to create care plans for students
- Participate in Health 504 meetings
- Provide staff with basic first aid-training and supplies
- Provide staff with location and how to use an AED
- Routine maintenance of AED batteries and electrodes
- Prepare school accident reports
- Coordinate dental health education in the school at the different grade levels
- Assist in the prevention and control of communicable diseases
- Order and maintain all health supplies for the health service program
- Assist with health information during student enrollment and registration
- Oversee and help support and train health-aides that also work in the nursing office
- Enter charges for applicable nursing services for those Medicaid eligible students
- Complete seizure and diabetic training required by the state
- Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Work with the Food Service Director on the menu regarding food allergies of students at each school
- Proven ability to cultivate strong community and parent partnerships
Personal and Professional Responsibilities:
- Associate or Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred
- Current Indiana State Board of Nursing License
- Successful Nursing Experience
- CPR certification
- Nursing experience with children or in public health preferred
- Effective oral and written communication skills
