Job Description

Position Summary: Gardner-Webb University is searching for a Principal Faculty for the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. This position has academic rank based on the candidates academic and experiential qualifications. Principal faculty are responsible for generating and delivering classroom lectures and clinical skills instruction throughout the academic year while serving as an advisor/mentor for PA students.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Generate and deliver classroom lectures and clinical skills instruction within thePA coursesthey areassigned.
  • Course director or module director asdeterminedby the Director of Didactic Education.
  • Design original or modify existing curricula to correlate with established or new course and program outcomes.
  • Implement curricula in harmony with the educational approach oftheprogram through active course direction toensure core competencies of entry-level graduatePAs.
  • Mentorinstructandevaluatestudents.
  • Oversee classroom activity assessment and evaluation of instruction for didactic and clinical yearstudents.
  • Participate in bi-weekly didactic curriculum meetings.
  • Participate in admissions processes by scoring qualifyingCASPAapplications interviewing candidates andrenderingselectiondecisions.
  • Participate in activities ofthestate regional and national organizations to promote a positive image of the PA conceptwithin academic lay and professional communities.
  • Participate as a memberor chairof program-levelcommitteesasrequested by the Program Director.
  • Represent theprogram through service onCollege andUniversitycommittees.
  • Pursue professional development activities such as clinical practice scholarly works or an advanceddegree.
  • Participate in activities of the state regional and national organizations to promote a positive image of the PA concept within academic lay and professional communities.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned from timeto time.


Qualifications: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The candidate should have the below requirements.

  • Graduate of an accredited PA program NCCPA certified and hold a masters or doctorate (preferred) from a regionally accredited institution.
  • If a physician the candidate mustpossesscurrent board certification and licensure as an allopathic or osteopathic physician in the preferred state of practice.
  • Current or eligible for North Carolina (or preferred state) medical license is required.
  • Possess aminimum of two (2) years of clinical practice experience.
  • Demonstrated abilities in teaching and curriculumdevelopment.
  • Be an advocate for the PA profession andbeinterested in advancing theprofessions future.
  • Possess a strong commitment to underserved populations and improving healthcare access.
  • Possess stronginterpersonal abilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students staff facultyand external stakeholders.
  • Possess the ability to use computers for organization work processing and communication.
  • Possess the ability and desire to learn new computer programs (e.g. Typhon Qualtrics ExamsoftBlackboard LMS) to fulfill the positions duties.
  • Exhibit enthusiasmabout working in a collaborativeenvironment.
  • Be self-motivatedwithrefinedorganizationalskills.
