The Long Term Substitute School Nurse position will be available from approximately October 10 2025 until December 19 2025. This position strengthens and facilitates the educational process by modifying or removing health related barriers to learning in individual students and promoting the optimal level of wellness for students. The nurse assumes responsibility for appropriate assessment planning intervention evaluation management and/or referral activities; serves as the direct link between physicians families and community agencies to assure access and continuity of health care for students; provides relevant instruction counseling and guidance to students parents staff and others concerning health related issues; upholds professional standards the Nurse Practice Act and other state and local statutes and regulations applicable to nursing practice; and adheres to District policies and administrative just responsibilities include but are not limited to:Openly communicate with building administrators and health screenings vision hearing dental height weight scoliosis BP and others as and assess health needs of students. Provide health counseling for chronic illness nutrition disease prevention and positive lifestyles. Evaluate and monitor communicable disease and nuisance diseases. Implement and monitor students compliance with state immunization laws. Provide emergency first aide to students and staff. Maintain accurate records on daily care and medications given at school. Act as resource for and interpret medical information to school faculty and staff. Recommend and assist to implement modifications of school programs to meet students health needs. Maintain evaluate and interpret cumulative health data and records. Participate as health specialist on teams to determine any health or developmental interference with learning; collaborate in the writing and monitoring of the health component of the Individualized Education Program and 504 as a liaison between home and school regarding health concerns including home visits as needed taking health histories and assessing long-term in parent-nurse and parent-teacher conferences as needed. Provide information for community referrals to appropriate medical personnel or community agency; follow up on referrals to assure that care or correction is obtained. Serve as liaison for recording and reporting child abuse to Child Protective individual health education in interactions with students. Provide information to parents regarding child growth and development health needs of children and parenting skills. Implement school dental program and any other special school health services health care emergency care pertinent health information as appropriate with building staff for student safety.
