To perform the duties and responsibilities of this position successfully the employee must possess the abilities and aptitudes to perform each task proficiently. SUMMARY Under direction to perform skilled work in painting redecorating and surface preparation; to perform semiskilled and skilled functions in other maintenance trade areas; and to do other related work as required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Use a brush roller or spray equipment in applying paint varnish shellac enamel lacquer and other protective and decorative finishes to a variety of surfaces including wood metal glass plaster stucco wallboard brick and cement. Scrape sand and fill voids to prepare surfaces for painting or repainting. Apply undercoat and finish coats to a variety of surfaces. Size and tint new plaster walls and other surfaces. May prepare walls and hang vinyl wall coverings. Refinish furniture lockers automotive and general equipment. Erect rig move and work from scaffolding and platforms. Clean brushes and tools and maintain a variety of painting equipment. Paint simple signs and affix them to appropriate structures and designated areas. Mix paints match blends harmonize and contrast color. May lay out and paint athletic courts and parking lots. Plan organize and lay out painting related tasks. May occasionally operate sandblasting and paint removal equipment. Requisition and maintain an adequate inventory of paint supplies materials and equipment. Coordinate and direct the work of other maintenance personnel. Drive a service vehicle to and from work sites. Comply with applicable state and federal law as well as local policies and procedures. Others duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Methods materials tools and equipment used in painting tinting and finishing work; Methods of preparing different surfaces for painting and repainting; Safe working methods and procedures.
Ability to: Skillfully mix paint match colors prepare walls and hang wall coverings; Safely erect and work from riggings and scaffolding; Plan lay out and coordinate the work of others; Accurately estimate labor and material costs; Maintain simple records and prepare complete and concise reports; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 50 to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects. Must have an adequate range of motion in the upper extremities. This type of work may involve ascending and descending ladders stairs scaffolding and ramps and will involve walking or standing for extended periods. Perceiving the nature of sound near and far vision depth perception providing oral information the manual dexterity to operate equipment and use hand tools and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job. Exposure to hot cold wet humid or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:
Experience: Two years of experience as a journey level painter.
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by course work or training in modern painting methods and techniques.
License Requirement Possession of a valid Kentucky Motor Vehicle Operators License.
Condition of Employment Insurability by the Districts liability insurance carrier.
