About IPSD

Caterpillars Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine Petroleum Industrial Applications Electric Generators and Locomotives. Job Summary:
As the Senior Manager Logistics & Production you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and logistics on multiple shifts of a small focused manufacturing facility. The incumbent is a key member of the site leadership team accountable for delivering world class safety quality and velocity for the Caterpillar small diesel engine business in North America. This role sets the tone pace and culture for the Operations and Logistics department and is expected to model our Caterpillar Values in Action through daily interactions with associates and peers.


What You Will Do:
Managing staffing development and performance management programs for operations and logistics staff; managing motivating and developing management team.
Overseeing operations and logistics activities ensuring that safety and schedules and performance requirements are met and system resources are used effectively.
Driving improvements for overall operations and logistics performance and implementing production safety cost and quality control mechanisms.
Ensures the compliance of all regulatory guidelines and forges a safe and sound manufacturing environment.


What You Will Have:

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
Level Extensive Experience:

  • Quantifies the costs benefits risks and chances for success before recommending a course of action.

  • Approaches a complex problem by breaking it down into its component parts.

  • Chooses among a diverse set of analytical tools according to the nature of the situation.

Planning and Organizing: Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way.
Level Extensive Experience:

  • Identifies the critical goals and tasks required to meet daily objectives.

  • Develops contingency plans or to improve processes and to avoid problems before they occur.

  • Manages conflicting priorities effectively.

  • Tracks the implementation of plans closely to ensure that desired outcomes are achieved.

Performance Management: Knowledge of successful performance management techniques; ability to apply organizations performance management system practices and tools to developing and improving individual team and organizational performance.
Level Working Knowledge:

  • Familiar with hourly workforce management and non-union labor policies and practices including Workday

  • Ensures performance goals checkpoints and feedback focus on behaviors.

  • Provides documented input to formal performance review conducted by manager.

  • Observes individual performance and provides fair and objective feedback.

  • Uses formal and informal rewards and recognition programs for employees.

Manufacturing Operations and logistics: Knowledge of manufacturing operations and logistics; ability to perform day-to-day operations and logistics of a manufacturing plant or facility for products.
Level Extensive Experience:

  • Understanding or familiarity in MFGPro global supply chain/logistics transportation customs master production scheduling ILC replenishment and other internal logistics and operational systems

  • Understanding or familiarity with Operations and logistics tools and process including MES value stream mapping cycle time optimization lean manufacturing EHS and maintenance practices.

  • Monitors organizational adherence to policies and procedures.

  • Facilitates communications across departments to ensure a smooth workflow in the plant or facility.

  • Evaluates the risks and safety hazards present in manufacturing operations and logistics.

  • Supervises daily operations and logistics to ensure production targets and forecasts are achieved.

Manufacturing Safety: Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers environment and site.
Level Extensive Experience:

  • Consults on the use of new tools and techniques for safety protection.

  • Designs and implements emergency response processes and procedures.

  • Promotes workplace safety among supervisors and workers; communicates safety rules and regulations.

  • Ensures that all employees and contractors comply with relevant safety policies and regulations.

Manufacturing Standards Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan guide and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.
Level Working Knowledge:

  • Strong Personal Accountability and Leadership Holds themselves and team to high standards of safety quality and velocity including a GO-SEE-ACT Lean focus with significant time interacting directly with hourly associates

  • Hands on leadership style with the ability to make rapid decisions under significant pressure related to safety quality and velocity

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of specific manufacturing procedures.

  • Explains the rationale for procedures and standards in own area of responsibility.

  • Provides feedback for improvement of procedures.

Production Scheduling and Control: Knowledge of procedures and tools for scheduling and controlling production runs; ability to utilize knowledge of daily manufacturing processes to assure quality deliverables.
Level Working Knowledge:

  • Follows existing procedures to set up stage and ensure proper job completion.

  • Confirms production requirements and lead times beforehand; assists in setting up production jobs.

  • Diagnoses and addresses production problems using established guidelines.

Additional Information:

  • This position is located in Griffin GA and requires a 5-day-a-week onsite schedule.

Summary Pay Range:

$144960.00 - $217320.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors job level market locationjob-related knowledge skills individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
