Job Description

Job Summary:

This role involves providing surgical technologist services in a fast-paced hospital environment supporting a wide range of surgical procedures. The surgical technologist will work collaboratively with the surgical team ensuring the safe and efficient preparation and maintenance of the operating room and assisting with surgical procedures. A minimum of 1.5 years of experience is required with specific experience in cardiovascular and trauma settings.
Location: Wilmington North Carolina United States
Responsibilities:
- Preparing the operating room and surgical instruments for procedures.
- Assisting surgeons during surgical procedures.
- Maintaining sterile technique and ensuring a safe surgical environment.
- Handling and labeling specimens.
- Performing sterilization and disinfection procedures.
- Following universal protocol (time-out) procedures.
- Working with adult and geriatric patients.
- Floating to Main OR and Vascular OR as needed.
- Participating in organ harvesting procedures (if applicable).
- Utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems (Epic) and other medical equipment (Pyxis etc.).
- Adhering to fire safety aseptic technique laser safety and sharp safety protocols.

Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience as a surgical technologist.
- Experience working with adult and geriatric patients.
- Experience in CVOR and Trauma settings.
- Experience with Cardiac and Vascular surgery cases.
- Knowledge of fire safety aseptic technique laser safety sharp safety specimen handling/labeling sterilization/disinfection and universal protocol (time-out) procedures.
- Trauma Level II experience.
- BLS certification.
- NBSTSA certification.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Experience in a community hospital setting.
- Experience with Endo/Laparoscopic ENT General Gyn Neuro Ortho Plastics and Urology surgical cases.
- Experience with organ donation.
- Experience with Epic EHR system.
Special Considerations:
- 10-hour day shifts (0630-1630).
- Call requirement: 2 days a week and every third weekend.
- Floating required to Main OR and Vascular OR.
- Weekend work required as needed.
- 40-hour unit orientation.
- Scrubs provided.

Scheduling:
- 10-hour day shifts (0630-1630).
- Shift assignments determined by the manager.
- Call is 2 days a week and every third weekend.
- Weekend work is required as needed.
