3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
An experienced and reliable HGV Waste Collection Driver is required on a temporary basis to support waste and recycling services during a period of annual leave cover.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy goods vehicles supervising a small team and delivering essential waste collection services to the community.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Drive HGV vehicles for domestic food trade bulky waste and recycling collections.
Supervise a small team of loaders or drivers during rounds.
Operate manual and automatic refuse and recycling equipment.
Collect sort and load items including paper glass cans textiles etc.
Deliver leaflets bins caddies sacks and containers to households.
Conduct daily vehicle checks and report defects to Fleet Management.
Ensure vehicle cleanliness (interior and exterior) is maintained to a high standard.
Use in-cab technology to support efficient route completion.
Provide polite and professional interaction with members of the public.
Work in all weather conditions and complete rounds before finishing for the day.
Assist with other cleansing or transfer station duties if required.
Adhere to all health and safety regulations including safe reversing procedures.
Work bank holidays (excluding Christmas Day Boxing Day and New Year s Day).
Comply with all relevant driving legislation including tachograph usage.
Skills/Experience:
Experience operating HGV vehicles in waste or recycling services.
Ability to supervise and lead a small operational team.
Knowledge of vehicle safety checks and reporting procedures.
Experience with in-cab route/collection systems is desirable.
Good communication and customer service skills.
High level of physical fitness able to work outdoors in all weather.
Awareness of health and safety requirements in a driving and waste environment.
Understanding of tachograph use and driving regulations.

Valid HGV driving licence.
