Job Description

4 Month Contract With A Local Authority


Job Summary:
  • We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Educational Psychologist to join our supportive and dynamic SEND team in Waltham Forest. The role involves providing timely high-quality psychological advice for statutory assessments of children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) in line with statutory guidance and within set timescales.
  • This is an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the lives of children and young people working closely with families schools and multi-agency partners to promote inclusive and evidence-based support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to referrals from the SEND Team to support statutory assessments of special educational needs within agreed timescales.

  • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments of children and young people considering educational developmental familial and community contexts.

  • Provide clear robust and evidence-based psychological advice to support Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • Collaborate with schools families and other professionals to develop interventions and support strategies.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and reports in line with legislative and local requirements.

  • Promote inclusive practice and contribute to the early intervention and graduated response frameworks.

  • Uphold the highest standards of professional practice in accordance with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) codes of conduct.

  • Participate in team meetings supervision CPD activities and relevant local authority initiatives.


Essential Requirements:

  • A recognised professional qualification in Educational Psychology.

  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist (Educational).

  • Demonstrable experience (or placement experience for early career applicants) in applying psychology in educational settings.

  • Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory processes related to EHCPs.

  • Ability to write clear concise and accessible psychological reports that inform statutory decision-making.

  • Knowledge of child development learning difficulties emotional and behavioural needs and systemic working.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.

  • Proficiency in IT systems and digital tools used for casework communication and reporting.
