Job Description

The MacPhail School of Energy is the only energy school in Canada and we are charting a new course with a focus on sustainable energy sources and practices. MacPhail School of Energy provides hands-on industry-guided training in labs that mimic job site environments giving students the skills needed to find a rewarding career in the energy sector.

The Opportunity

The MacPhail School of Energy is currently looking for individuals who are interested in teaching the next generation of professionals in their field.

We are looking for instructors to teach in the Electrical Apprenticeship and Pre-Employment Electrician programs. Teaching these programs requires in-depth knowledge of electrical theory the Canadian Electrical Code and current industry trade practices across residential commercial and industrial sectors. As part of our team you are encouraged to be bold and inventive bringing new ideas to the table to enhance student learning and program development.


Note: SAIT as a post-secondary institution serves a diverse student population. Therefore instructional duties may occasionally be required during early mornings evenings and weekends. If selected specific scheduling arrangements will be discussed between you and the leader.

The Role

    • Prepare engaging and well-structured lessons that support student success and align with program outcomes.
    • Design and deliver dynamic high-quality presentations that make learning both practical and impactful.
    • Participate in all required SAIT training and professional development opportunities to stay current and grow as an educator.
    • Contribute meaningfully to the Schools initiatives and objectives helping shape the future of electrical trades education.
    • Accurately track assess and report student progress in a timely and transparent manner.
    • Show initiative and flexibility by taking on additional responsibilities that support students colleagues and program goals.
    • Be an active collaborative and engaged member of the School community.
    • Promote and uphold all safety legislation guidelines and standards to create a safe and professional learning environment.
    • Build and maintain strong connections with industry to ensure training reflects current technologies and best practices.
    • Perform all other duties that contribute to the success of students the program and the School.

Qualifications & Experience

    • Red Seal Electrician certification is required.
    • Master Electrician certification is an asset.
    • A minimum of five years of field experience as a Journeyperson Electrician is preferred.
    • Prior teaching or mentoring experience in the electrical trades is strongly valued.
    • Teaching experience at university or college level is an asset.
    • A university degree would be an asset.
    • Strong English language skills both written and verbal with the ability to communicate clearly and confidently.
    • Comfortable and engaging in public speaking with a passion for sharing knowledge.
    • Demonstrates a positive respectful and professional attitude with students colleagues and industry partners.
    • Competent in using Microsoft Office applications to support teaching and administrative tasks.
    • Skilled in reading interpreting and delivering technical curriculum content in a way that connects theory to real-world practice.

Hourly Rate: $38.18 - $44.66
