Job Description
Position Summary
NYU Shanghai is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic graduate student to serve as a Teaching Assistant for NEUR-SHU 201: Introduction to Neural Science during the Fall 2025 semester. Under the guidance of the course instructor the TA will play a key role in facilitating student learning in a dynamic discussion-based classroom that meets Mondays and Wednesdays 11:15 am 12:30 pm in Room S310.
Job Responsibilities
Instructional & Grading Support
- Grade problem sets (distributed two to three times per semester) and record grades on Brightspace and Gradescope
- Assist with grading the midterm and final examinations
- Proctor both in-class exams (midterm and final)
- Coordinate regularly with the course instructor to discuss student progress and clarify grading rubrics
Student Engagement & Communication
- Hold two hours of weekly office hours to review course material and answer questions
- Respond promptly to student emails and Brightspace queries
- Facilitate student learning by guiding group discussions or review sessions as needed
Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week on average
Qualifications
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- PhD candidacy in Neuroscience or a closely related field
- Strong communication skills in English
- Prior teaching or TA experience (particularly in neuroscience or related biological sciences) preferred
