Job Description

THE POSITION


The Medical Examiners Officewithin thePublic Health Divisionof Washington Countys Department of Health and Human Services is looking to fill afull-time regularMedicolegal Death Investigator position to complement our dedicated team.

* This recruitment may also be used to fill future full-time part-time variable hour temporary and limited duration vacancies that may become available within the next six-months or so. *

About the Opportunity:
The Medicolegal Death Investigator (MDI) receives general administrative support and supervision as needed from assigned management staff and general program supervision from the Chief Medicolegal Death Investigator. This position partners with both the Sheriffs Office and the District Attorneys Office by conducting death investigations for sudden unexpected suspicious or unattended deaths within Washington Countys jurisdiction. The MDI acts as the eyes and ears of the forensic pathologist while investigating the circumstances of deaths providing the physician with the data and evidence to determine the cause and manner of death.

The work schedule for this position generally covers a 3- or 4-day per week shift during the day the midday (swing) or the overnight shift. Schedules are not guaranteed and may change over time depending on staffing and business needs.

Due to the nature of the duties the work is expected to be performed in-person only and is not eligible for remote work. Work locations may vary: primarily at Public Services Building Hillsboro OR frequently travel to the State Medical Examiners Office in Clackamas OR and death scenes within Washington County jurisdiction as needed.

Who we are looking for:
The ideal candidate is certified with the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (
ABMDI) with preferably five or more years of experience in the same or a related field working with law enforcement and/or medical professionals. Additionally they will have exceptional investigative analytical and documentation skills as well as diligence to follow cases through to their conclusion. They will be a team player with effective conflict resolution skills and the ability to understand policies and procedures and apply them in the field. They will possess emotional intelligence practice self-care strategies and have effective written and verbal communication skills. A record of successful experience working with multi-background communities is highly desired as is a shared commitment with Washington County to serve our community. Bilingual skills would be a plus.
