Job Description

The Organisation:

Civtec was established in 2014 and provides civil and utilities infrastructure works across telecommunications three waters and energy. Since inception we have continued to diversify and now have capabilities covering a range of services and technologies servicing the residential commercial and industrial sectors. We have a dedicated team across New Zealand of operational field force customer service and business support teams using the latest technology and high-quality machinery to provide a leading service second to none.

The Role:

The Financial Accountant plays a critical role within the South Island operational team providing timely and accurate financial information to support effective decision making and strategic delivery. Reporting to the South Island Operations Manager and maintaining a dotted line to the General Manager Finance this role acts as the financial business partner for the region translating financial data into meaningful insights for operational leaders.

The Financial Accountant is responsible for end-to-end accounting functions including the preparation of monthly management accounts accurate and timely reconciliation of the balance sheet statutory and tax compliance forecasting support and ongoing financial analysis. This role ensures financial integrity while enabling commercial decision-making contributing to regional performance and alignment with national finance frameworks and policies.



As the Financial Accountant you will be responsible for the following:

Accurately producing month end reporting requirements for Civtec and other group entities including Month-end journals accruals prepayments fixed asset register

Preparing the Enable claim monthly and tracking pain/gain share.

Provide timely and accurate monthly financial reports to operations leaders and project managers to show the financial performance of jobs and workstreams versus budget tender or TOC margins.

Completing timely financial reporting and analysis as well as supporting stakeholder reviews

Posting of plant and labour job cost entries to ensure complete and accurate records of Civtec work done during the reporting periods

Assist in preparing financial forecasts and budgets aligning with both regional objectives and national financial strategy.

Educate project managers in financial performance management and use of Civtec systems

Overseeing the AP function in conjunction with the North Island Financial Accountant and supporting these duties as required.

Prepare retrospective life to date project reports to identify trends for improved cos recovery and pricing.

Support continuous improvement of financial systems and processes to enhance accuracy timeliness and usability of information.

Complete administrative tasks to a high standard.

Actively communicate and escalate issues with all stakeholders to provide accurate information/identify concerns in a timely manner.

Undertake other tasks to support the overall Civtec business as required from time to time.

Business Partnering

Work closely with the South Island GM and operational leaders to understand financial performance and cost drivers.

Provide commentary and insights on variances trends and opportunities for improvement.

Translate financial information into actionable insights to support regional business performance and growth.

Work in partnership with other senior finance leaders to improve systems processes and ensure strong collaboration

To be successful in this role we are seeking candidates with:

Minimum three years experience in similar role

Intermedial to Advanced computer skills in using a variety of computer software (Dynamics 365 preferred)

Sound understanding of accounting principles and practices

Commitment to confidentiality and sensitivity of information.

Demonstrated knowledge of project accounting principles and practices and job costing.

Ability to explain financial concepts to other teams

Reasoning and problem-solving ability

Reliable honest and accountable.

Enthusiastic with a strong work ethic

Excellent time management and organizational skills.
