With a primary hub in Wellington and a presence throughout the country NZ Police ICT delivers modern digital solutions both directly and through specialist vendor partnerships. Were on the hunt for a Technical Product Owner to lead the charge in modernising our foundation Identity capabilities. You will be part of a forward-thinking group that values innovation collaboration and continuous improvement with a focus on delivering great outcomes to our frontline.

In this newly created role youll be the technical product owner for identity and related functions within our ICT landscape. Youll drive the evolution of our foundational identity systems focusing on both IGA and IAM. This role isnt just about driving maturity; its about innovating and building a robust future-proof identity solution that meets our demanding security requirements and enables a complex digital ecosystem.

This is a rare opportunity to lead the delivery of digital identity across a nationally connected organisation driving a forward-looking roadmap that delivers a seamless and secure experience across the enterprise. You will work closely with our security architecture and infrastructure groups to deliver practical outcomes.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the technical roadmap and product lifecycle for identity services.

  • Collaborate with architecture infrastructure and security teams to ensure seamless delivery and alignment with enterprise goals.

  • Ensure identity services comply with internal policies regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

  • Oversee the operational health of identity platforms including performance monitoring and continuous product improvement.

  • Drive automation and self-service capabilities to enhance user experience and reduce operational overhead.

  • Evaluate and incorporate identity platforms to enable hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

  • Lead the way implementing seamless experiences by driving common identity practices such as single sign on.

  • Champion modern identity practices including Zero Trust conditional access and identity governance.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for identity-related initiatives ensuring consistent delivery robust identity services and enhanced security.

Whilst we are looking for skills knowledge and experience relevant to the role we also place high importance on your state of mind the alignment of your values with ours your ability to contribute to and build high performing teams and the way that you lead yourself or others.

  • Proven experience with Microsoft Entra ID at scale including identity lifecycle management and automation in complex environments.

  • Exposure to a wide range of identity platforms and toolsets.

  • Deep understanding of identity protocols (OAuth2 OpenID Connect SAML and SCIM) and authentication and authorisation models.

  • Knowledge of identity-related security risks and mitigation strategies including familiarity with compliance frameworks.

  • Strong track record in agile environment include experience in product owner or management practices and the ability to manage a complex backlog.

  • A proven ability to lead cross-functional teams without formal authority.

  • A track record of building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external service providers.

  • Ability to lead workshops present roadmaps and influence decision makers.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative and inclusive leadership style.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills you will love untangling the challenges of a modern complex digital ecosystem.
