Position Purpose:
The Military Connected Career Coach will provide support specifically designed to assist military-connected students and alumni in their career development journey. Military connected students include veterans current service members ROTC military spouses and military dependents. This role provides program management individual coaching resource development and community engagement to create comprehensive support for our veteran and military-affiliated student population of approximately 250 students.
This position will develop innovative career resources facilitate impactful workshops and events and provide personalized career guidance that helps military-connected students successfully translate their unique experiences into career success. Working collaboratively with campus partners such as the Veteran Success Center youll play a vital role in ensuring that military-connected students receive the wraparound support they need to succeed.
Responsibilities:
Service to Success Career Readiness Program Management 20%
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of the Service to Success Career Readiness Program for military-connected students.
- Regularly assess the programs effectiveness based on student feedback and outcomes.
- Monitor student progress and provide individualized outreach and encouragement to ensure program completion and high-quality learning.
Resource Development 20%
- Create resources for translating military experience into civilian contexts.
- Identify subpopulations and unique needs of military-connected students via surveys focus groups or other methods of data collection.
- Modify career development materials and create new materials to best suit identified needs.
- Ensure career development resources are accessible.
- Create sample career paths and employer connections tailored to common military occupational specialties.
Individualized Career Support 20%
- Conduct one-on-one coaching appointments with military-connected students on career development topics including: resume and cover letter development interview preparation graduate school planning job and internship search strategies salary negotiation etc.
- Follow up with students to provide additional support and resources.
- Initiate personalized outreach to encourage participation in career planning coaching and career services.
- Provide guidance on federal resumes and USAJobs applications.
- Partner with offices such as Financial Aid Veteran Success Center Counseling Services and Academic Success Center to provide comprehensive support.
Workshop & Event Facilitation 20%
- Offer workshops events and tabling to meet career development needs of military-connected students.
- Partner with Veteran Success to co-host events and increase student engagement.
- Partner with academic departments with large proportion of military-connected students to offer career-related presentations and increase faculty awareness of career resources.
- Represent the Career Development Center at campus events.
Communication & Collaboration 15%
- Develop and implement a communications strategy for military-connected students that incorporates event invitations and timely career advice.
- Contribute military-affiliated student updates and outcomes to the Career Development Centers annual report.
- Attend Yellow Ribbon-related meetings and prepare grant-related reports and summaries as requested.
- Support general Career Development Center initiatives when needed.
- Collaborate with other staff to ensure a seamless and inclusive experience for all students.
Professional Development 5%
- Stay up to date on military-to-civilian transition trends best practices in veteran career development federal/state veteran hiring initiatives and related DEI efforts.
- Participate in relevant professional development opportunities.
Salary Range:
$22.89 - $37.57 hourly
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Educational Leadership Higher Education Student Affairs or related field; OR Bachelors degree plus one year of professional experience in content-specific field; OR two years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of post-sectondary training education and/or professional experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a variety of constituents
- Work effectively in a team environment
Preferred Qualification:
- Military-affiliated experience
- Experience supporting military-connected students
- Professional experience in college-level academic or career coaching advising tutoring or other student services
Other Requirements:
- Sitting standing lifting extensive keyboard work and limited travel. This position is required to work periodic evenings or weekends for events.
- Must be able to lift/ carry equipment and materials occasionally
