About Organization

The Cloud Platform Division (CPD) provides the virtualized infrastructure for Rakuten Mobile.

In the Cloud Engineering Department part of CPD we are responsible for the design deployment and operations of virtualization infrastructure software for containers and virtual machines. Together with engineers who possess advanced cloud technology that forms the core of the worlds first fully virtualized cloud-native mobile network realized by Rakuten Mobile you can engage in creative and innovative work that evolves the mobile network daily.

Our department is comprised of approximately 50 dedicated members primarily focused on the engineering and operations of telecom cloud technology. The organizational structure is divided into five specialized sections:

SRE Sections:Each of these sections is dedicated to a specific technology domain within our operations - the virtualization platform the container platform and the storage platform. These teams are at the forefront of engineering and operational excellence in their respective areas.

Development Section for the Container Platform:This section is tasked with the development aspects of the container platform contributing to its evolution and enhancement.

Verification Environment Section:Focused on preparing systematizing and automating the verification environment this section plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our platforms.

Together these five sections form a cohesive unit with most members being engineers deeply involved in advancing telecom cloud technology. Our collaborative environment is designed to foster innovation efficiency and excellence in all aspects of our work.

Job Duties

• Lead the engineering and operational management of our telecom cloud platform focusing on in-house operations.

• Oversee the entire lifecycle of the platform including design verification and deployment in commercial settings.

• Enhance the efficiency of daily operations and contribute to continuous operational improvement.

• Act as a technical leader proactively driving business improvements and fostering the development of team members.

• Coordinate closely with main stakeholders including vendors of cloud platforms and departments utilizing these platforms for telecommunications applications.

Minimum Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in the design construction and management of telecom clouds specifically on-premises private clouds.

• Proven ability to produce key documentation including requirements definition documents high-level design documents and low-level design documents.

• Proficient troubleshooting skills across various hardware stacks (servers switches) operating systems (Linux) networks and cloud platform software.

• Strong development skills focused on operational efficiency and automation.

• Test engineering expertise capable of creating test plans and ensuring quality assurance.

• Leadership skills necessary to oversee operations as a technical leader with a particular emphasis on progress and risk management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the design development and management of telecom applications especially packet core and RAN technologies.

• Familiarity with telecom application standards notably those from 3GPP.
