Purpose / Role of the job:
The Technical Product Manager is responsible for the active life cycle management of the product lines in charge (product / application developments cost optimization patents etc.) incl. full recipe responsibility and is the focal point for all technical quality and innovation related topics.
Responsibilities/ Accountabilities of the job:
Full recipe responsibility for products in charge
Specification improvement to improve product performance vs competitors
Cost optimization of product recipes and production processes
Technical Consultant: Focal point for sales / application development managers production QM R&D and Regional Development Center (RDC) for all product line related technical topics.
Customer Compliant to handle complaint with one face (internal communication across function)
Active life cycle / portfolio management with focus on target industries / market requirements in line with Styrolutions overall strategy jointly with Product Manager. Ensuring product quality according to market needs.
Safeguard EHS standards: evaluate EHS consequences of any modification with product stewardship experts make sure that business unit processes and products fulfill all regulatory requirements ensure proper documentation and tracking
Lead / support of R&D and / or application development projects for respective product lines.
Market and competitor analysis (e.g. product overview and assessment of competitor portfolios)
Securing intellectual properties (e.g. by patent applications)
Perform internal or external technical seminars (e.g. customer events)
Internal & external technical representation for respective product line (presentations publishing web site content etc.)
Collaborate in and support of the production process for new or modified applications.
Application development feasibility assessment and troubleshooting on customer sites in close collaboration with technical experts (e.g. from R&D).
Preparation of solid business cases including a thorough product positioning.
Required profile:
Level of education & Knowledge:
- University degree or PhD in chemistry polymer science or a related discipline
- Fluent in English and Chinese. Some other Asian languages would be a plus
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a technical role within the plastics industry
- Profound understanding of automotive market
Technical skills:
- Profound understanding of the polymerization process
- Properties and performance of various polymers during transformation and in use in a variety of applications
- In-depth understanding of polymer science and application development
- Profound understanding of product performance processing (e.g. injection moulding extrusion) and polymer technology
- Sufficient commercial acumen

- Excellent interpersonal skills and effective cooperation with colleagues in other functions especially R&D operations technical account management and product management
- Pro-active individual who is self-driven and has an entrepreneurial spirit

- Good communication and presentation skills
