Job Summary

  • Exemplary written verbal and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and work successfully with courts legal colleagues Department staff board members legislators and Montana citizens;
  • Demonstrated aptitude for identifying researching and analyzing complex legal issues and directing a course of action to resolve problems;
  • Working knowledge of administrative litigation and legislative procedures; state and federal statutes regulations case law and constitutional provisions pertinent to the Departments mission and duties;
  • Sound judgment in advising regulatory boards to ensure fair and safe delivery of professional services without imposing unfair and unnecessary burdens on Montanas professional workforce;
  • Knowledge or interest in bankruptcy and collections proceedings.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Your preparation for this opportunity could include a combination of relevant education/experiences including:

  • This position requires a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law and admittance to the Montana Bar and Federal District Courts.

OR

  • Any combination of equivalent experience and education to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective on July 1 2026.

JOB DUTIES:

As a transactions team Attorney with DLI you will serve as Agency Counsel representing DLI and attached boards. Duties include:

  • Drafting and reviewing administrative rules for DLI and its attached boards.
  • Representing DLI and the quasi-judicial functions of its attached boards.
  • Drafting reviewing negotiating and enforcing contracts.
  • Policy research and legislative drafting.
  • State and federal compliance reviews for DLI programs.
  • Occasional representation of DLI or its boards in appropriate litigation before administrative tribunals and the courts.
  • Providing day-to-day advice for DLI boards and programs.
