Job Description

Position Summary:

The Behavior Support Specialist requires a bachelors degree in education (or related field) from an accredited college or university. A minimum of three years experience working with students families and educators in a school or related setting with a focus on supporting students who may be at risk or experiencing behavioral challenges is required. A valid Virginia teacher license is preferred. Candidates must be able to work effectively with students parents teachers administrators and the general public.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires a bachelors degree in special education from an accredited college or university. A minimum of three years experience as a teacher in which the teaching of at-risk and/or students with behavioral challenges is an important responsibility for the position. Must have or be eligible for a teacher license from the Virginia Department of Education. Must be able to work effectively with students parents teachers administrators and general public.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Serve as a behavioral support specialist to teachers and school staff by modeling strategies and providing guidance for supporting students who are at risk or in need of additional support.

  2. Collaborate with teachers to design and implement classroom-based strategies that promote positive student behavior and engagement.

  3. Provide professional development to staff through trainings workshops and resources that build capacity for effective classroom management and student support.

  4. Monitor and communicate with school administration about student progress and ongoing challenges.

  5. Coordinate with outside community health providers to obtain referrals and access additional student services as needed.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Effective Date: 2025-2026 School Year

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience
