Salary: Current DESE Certified HPS personnel $40/hr; all others $30/hr
Organizational Relationship
or Line of Authority: Directly responsible to the Executive Director of Student Support Services and/or their designee. Jointly responsible to the appropriate Curriculum Supervisor.
Statement of Duties:
- Support individual students with intellectual disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorder age 18-21 in inclusive postsecondary educational settings which includes attending NECC courses with students and supporting them in the class outside of class and on the NECC campus.
- Be available to attend new student campus tours orientation person-centered planning intake meetings and professional development training as necessary.
- Coach students in the typical role of a college student including appropriate class behavior study skills test-taking skills time management and organizational skills.
- Provide homework support when needed.
- Assist students in accessing college Academic Support Services Student Support Services and Student Life activities as necessary and appropriate for the student.
- Help students plan and practice personal safety techniques self-advocacy assertiveness skills and social skills. This will allow students to be as independent as possible in the college environment.
- Assist students in travel training when needed.
- Complete all logs and paperwork if/as assigned by the MAIPSE Coordinator and/or high school liaison.
- Work with Learning Accommodations Center and Assistive Technology Specialist to develop learning strategies to assist students.
- Review and encourage the use of educational accommodations as outlined in the Accommodation Plan. If a student decides to audit the course the Educational Coach may need to make changes to the course expectations and materials so the student can benefit from the educational experience.
- Strategize with the student on how to communicate with faculty regarding course expectations attendance and fulfillment of credit/audit status.
- Maintain weekly communication with the MAIPSE Coordinator and notify the MAIPSE Coordinator and the High School Liaison of problems/concerns as they arise.
- Responsible for instructional and general duties as indicated by the Curriculum Supervisors and directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
Qualifications:
- Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education preferred.
- Minimum of a Bachelors Degree required.
- Knowledge of school philosophy organization and curriculum.
- Understanding of the school student and their needs
- Knowledge of recommended school instructional practices.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
