Job Duties:

The American Indian & Indigenous Studies Program (AIIS) seeks a dynamic professional to join our team as a non-tenure-track Teaching Faculty. This position will teach two 3-credit courses per semester and two 3-credit summer addition they will serve as the academic advisor for students pursuing a certificate in AIIS.

In addition to home departments advisors in L&S are a part of an active advising community and interdependent system. During the academic year L&S advisors meet monthly as a consortium for information sharing and ongoing training. All L&S advisors also contribute to the campus Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR) program for a couple weeks in summer and a few days in January to advise new L&S first-year and transfer students.

This position is onsite and full-time 100%.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
  • Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy
  • Supervises the day to day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
  • CoordinatesoutreachtoUWstudentsandcampusunitstogenerateinterestinAmerican Indian&IndigenousStudiesincludingrelationship-buildingwithunderrepresentedgroups.
  • Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
  • Provides classroom online and/or laboratory instruction including grading
  • Assists in developing techniques and/or model programs for carrying out instructional goals in disciplinary area and may help identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistance

Compensation:

The typical starting salary for this position is $60000 - $72000 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation holidays and paid time off; competitive insurance and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years experience teaching at the college level and supervising teaching assistants

  • Experience with curriculum development and evaluation

  • Experience advising students

  • Ability to use technology effectively

  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent written communication skills

  • Good organizational skills and timeliness in responding to student inquiries

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in using Canvas learning management system

  • Understanding of technological trends and integrating high-quality instruction across multiple modalities.

Education:

PhD required; focus in American Indian & Indigenous studies or close related field
