Work Schedule: Hours are based on the needs of the business. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 5:30am to 5:30pm.

This position will be responsible for development and maintenance of all policies/procedures staffing model safety metrics coordination of Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and financial metrics as defined by the Methodist Hospital Pharmacy Operations Coordinator and the Midwest Surgical Hospital Administrative Team. Education to healthcare professionals and patients is a addition the ability to work in the pharmacy as a patient-care pharmacist is required.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

Oversee maintain and continuously develop the operations of the pharmacy service with guidance from Pharmacy operations Coordinator Midwest Surgical Hospital administrative team and Medical Staff.

  • Feedback from Midwest Surgical Hospital Administration on service level.

Prepare and maintain written policies and procedures for all aspects of medication management. Policies and procedures must be reviewed at a minimum of every two years.

  • Reflective based on existing Policy and Procedure manual.

Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Age Specific Criteria to maximize optimal pharmacotherapy for the individual patient: pediatrics to adults.

Effectively manages department by planning organizing coordinating directing and controlling all pharmacy service program elements to comply with State Federal and Departmental policies and procedures.

  • Data reflective on registrations and surveys.

Reports to the Midwest Surgical Hospital Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee on a regular basis with quality and safety data representing medication utilization medication events adverse drug reactions and metrics defined by the Midwest Surgical Hospital Administrative team.

  • Data representative within the minute for Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee meetings.

Supervises pharmacists pharmacy interns and other support personnel in the performance of all duties as defined by departmental policies and the core values of Midwest Surgical Hospital and Nebraska Methodist Hospital.

Conducts annual appraisals for direct reports on an annual basis.

  • Semiannually during probationary period for new hires.
  • Data collected in the Human resources department Performance Manager.

Conducts new orientation for all individuals assigned to Midwest Surgical Hospital.

  • Coordinates annual skills checklist and skills assessment.

Assists in the implementation of the strategic direction within the process to ensure efficient and effective day-to-day operation by adhering to sound methods of financial planning and fiscal responsibility responsible business and resource management practices and Hospital policies.

  • Measured through budget variances for labor and supplies.
  • Variances to budget must be reconciled and documented on a monthly basis.

Demonstrate proficiency in pharmacist clinical activities.

  • Drug formulary is preserved as defined by the medical staff.
  • Age Specific Criteria incorporated into clinical decision process from pediatric to geriatric.
  • Renal adjustments made when applicable.
  • Pharmacokinetics and dosing calculations performed when applicable.
  • Medication History and reconciliation.
  • Retail pharmacy services to employees and patients of Midwest Surgical Hospital.

Sterile Compounding Management in accordance with USP 797 and USP 800 chapters. Coordination of sterile compounding needs are arranged with Nebraska Methodist Hospital Sterile Compounding Specialist.

  • Pass Low Risk Level Competency and manage FLOW of products.
  • Pass Medium Risk Level Competency and mange FLOW of products.

Medication Process Efficiency.

  • Order verification complete and prompt based on defined goals.
  • Oversees the FLOW of products with no backlog or delays.

Hazardous Drugs.

  • Demonstrates ability to safely oversee the management of Hazardous Drugs.

Hospital-wide.

  • Actions represent the best interest of the patient (observational).
  • Wash hands frequently and per policy and between patient visits.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Post-Baccalaureate Degree of Pharmacy with 5 years of clinical pharmacy experience required or
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree with 3 years of clinical pharmacy experience required or
  • Pharmacy degree with 5 years of supervisory experience in hospital pharmacy practice required.
  • Completion of Master of Business or Certified leadership training program preferred.


Experience

  • 3 years of clinical pharmacy experience required.


License/Certifications

  • Current active Pharmacy Licensure (PH) for the State of Nebraska required.


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Interpersonal Skills: To communicate effectively with hospital personnel patients and the public through daily rounds meetings and formal presentations.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint (equivalent to Level II experience for all programs)
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze medical literature outcome and safety data and financial information. Must be able to interpret and evaluate patient specific information to formulate patient care plans.
  • Management Skills: Ability to work alone with minimal supervision and continuously develop the pharmacy service without prompting. Ability to supervise patient care pharmacists pharmacy interns and technicians.
  • Time Management Skills: Ability to prioritize time and tasks according to the needs of patients the Department of Pharmacy and the Midwest Surgical Hospital without prompting.
