Job Description

Job Description:

The School Library Paraprofessional provides support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for maintaining the library and media collections; identifying age-appropriate resources for students and teachers utilizing library and media resources; selecting appropriate items in support of classroom instruction; and performing clerical functions related to collection processing circulation maintenance and inventory of library materials.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree required. Bachelors preferred.
  • Experience with grant writing.
  • Experience working with elementary age students is desirable.
  • First Aid/CPR certification desirable.
  • Experience with students with disabilities required.
  • Able to work collaboratively with colleagues. Experience working with students with a variety of learning behavioral and emotional challenges.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with children and adults. Familiarity with computer operations and instructional.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact and take direction from a variety of professionals.
  • Proficiency with keyboarding and filing.
  • Physical requirements the work requires regular bending stretching stooping pushing and pulling; lifting print and other materials office equipment and supplies of up to 25 pounds and the ability to move a reasonable quantity of materials from place to place within or outside the Library.
  • The ability to travel between library branches and other locations may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • The Library Paraprofessional provides support to students in the library/media center during the school day and under the direction of the Building Principal.
  • Promotes a love of reading and lifelong learning.
  • Monitors students usage of ST Math and supports student progress.
  • Provides classroom management for classes using the library.
  • Assists students and staff in locating library materials.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the library collection including the purchase cataloging processing and inventory of materials.
  • Manage and list the books for elementary school students with a DEI proficient lens.

Building Principal

LOCATION:

0.2 FTE Becket Washington Elementary School (1 day)

0.2 FTE Kittredge Elementary School (1 day)

0.6 FTE Craneville Elementary School (3 days)

SALARY:

In accordance paraprofessional contract.
