Job Purpose

The GM Dry Bulk ship Operations is responsible for the post fixture operations of all the vessels and lead a team of vessel operators for smooth commercial operations ensuring strict compliance of standard operations procedures (SOP) without fail for all types of fixtures.

A strong practical understanding of commercial operational issues and their legal and commercial implications will be required to protect companys interest as charterer by working with owners shippers receivers agents bunker suppliers ship brokers PNI Club and lawyers and senior management of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead a team of vessel operators round the clock for smooth operations of all voyage and time-chartered vessels. Be the bridge between chartering team and cargo traders and senior management for all in house commodities traded by the group.
  2. Ensuring all vessels are performing as per Charter Parties and the sales and purchase contract and their relevant shipping terms. The main objective is a quick turnaround of vessels at load and discharge ports and bunkering port and during ballasting or laden passages to meet the estimated cost budget of the shipment and control variances.
  3. Training and making all vessel operators responsible for entering correct shipping entries and data in ORACLE shipping systems and keeping all records up to-date following internal procedures.
  4. To check and verify that the designated operators are handling and coordinating with Owners / Shippers / Receivers / Brokers / Agents / Surveyors / Traders / Others on all receivables and payables on regular basis and are maintaining soft copies of the same.
  5. Responsible for laytime and balance freight and any other receivables collections within due date from all counterparties by daily and weekly and monthly follow up of all outstanding summary taking full responsibilities of collection coordination.
  6. Proactively solving all commercial and legal issues and disputes by working with external parties in coordination with senior traders and management.
  7. Taking full responsibilities of closing each completed vessel shipment with all counterparties Owners/Shippers/Receivers/Brokers/Agents/Suppliers/etc. No vessel file should be kept pending.
  8. Conduct monthly routine audits of the OPS department and to rectify and improve the system if / any defects and noncompliance is found and correct it immediately.
  9. To ensure that as per management SOP bank account details of all the counterparts are to be strictly verified personally over the phone with relevant companys PIC prior to making payment.
  10. All new counterparties must comply with our account opening procedures and KYC formalities need to be strictly followed.
  11. To set the KPI for all the individual team members (operators) so as they can continue to learn and improve.
  12. All PNI Club and legal running and closed files and follow-ups are maintained and taken corrective action as required also ensuring that all data and messages are compiled and records are maintained.
  13. For voyages involving freight tax (e.g. India / Pakistan) ensure to use the correct company entities/banks to optimize freight tax issues.

Skills Required:

Education: Degree in Shipping/Logistics/Marine or related disciplines

Experience:

Minimum 10 years experience in ship operations gained in a dry bulk commodities trading firm or a shipping company especially handling of handy to Panamax size vessels in voyage time charter and period charter.

Excellent knowledge of relevant documentation including CP (GENCON and NYPE) Laytime Calculations NOR SOF HIRE and Freight Statements FHS SOA BDN PDA Arbitration Legal case handling etc.

Strong knowledge of Voyage Charter Party Laytime Interpretation Rules 1993

TC Voyage Calculations SOA preparations and checking

Bunker purchase and supply dispute.

Checking and approval of hire freight bunker PDA survey etc payment request made by ship operator / team members.

Skills:

Must be experienced in ERP Oracle or similar

Fluent English and preferably Mandarin

Ability to work independently and self-motivated
