La Redoute was created in 1837 as a spinning company by a family from the north of France who started out in the woollen industry. It has accompanied several profound socio-economic changes and has always focussed on women and their families.
In the mid-1980s an entrepreneur from Leiria whose ambition was to develop a catalogue sales company challenged La Redoute to enter the Portuguese market. And so it 1987 La Redoute carried out an initial test with very positive results and in 1988 the first catalogue was Portuguese subsidiary is the only one in the group with its own logistics. It has a warehouse in Leiria where stock is stored orders are prepared for private and corporate customers and returns are received and processed. Returns from the subsidiary in Spain are also recent years La Redoute has carried out an extraordinary transformation of its business model which has led it to become a benchmark brand in e-commerce. La Redoute has become a pure e-commerce player maintaining and reaffirming its position in the Portuguese market.
By valuing and investing in human capital with the company expanding into a new area it was natural to increase the number of jobs especially in the IT area (development programming support cyber security) and the financial area without neglecting the others.
Today with headquarters in Leiria more than 200 employees work in a wide variety of areas including finance and IT teams that provide services on an international scale for all the groups companies. Digital and technical profiles now account for almost 25% of the global workforce at La Redoute and the increase in digitization is expected to increase this proportion as well as investments in technology and automation. The technology teams already exceed 100 IT technicians across a wide range of specialities. These are teams whose skills focus mainly on Software Engineering Data Engineering and Cloud Administration. They are responsible for developing the majority of projects for the group and monitor our organisations activity around the world 24 hours a day. All from Leiria.
