TITLE: AmeriCorps Service Member
REPORTS TO: Unit Director
STIPEND: up to $1260 a month
EDUCATION AWARD: up to $1950
HOURS: 25 to 30 Per week
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The purpose of the AmeriCorps Service Member is to serve in a district school with Boys & Girls Club staff and district personnel to provide social-emotional learning (SEL) support and/ or academic support to students. AmeriCorps members will provide an innovative approach to support youth in their social emotional learning life skill development and coping skills and/or tutoring in areas of math science reading and more. Members will serve youth to provide support during the school day conduct individual goal setting and monthly progress reporting and will work with BGC administration to identify and offer services to the youth who need this support the most both during school and after school.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities)
Assist in the instruction supervision and care of groups and individual students with a variety of needs in areas of social emotional learning behavioral and academic supports.
Observe and document student progress and/or behavior; provide information to appropriate personnel; and attend staff meetings and position-related training.
Assist in the development of and implement academic curriculum program planning and behavioral plans as assigned for the purpose of assisting in meeting general and special education students needs.
Attend after hour training and BGC training.
Adapt activities assignments and/or materials as assigned for the purpose of providing an opportunity for general and special education students alike to participate after school activities.
Collaborate with others for the purpose of evaluating progress implementing accommodations and maintaining services and programs.
Communicate regularly with the Unit Director to ensure program activities are functioning well within the after school program structure.
Monitor the progress of individuals and groups receiving targeted services to determine what kind of additional assistance is needed during the after school program.
Administer standards of behavior and discipline to ensure the safety and well being of students.
Monitor individual students and/or groups of students in a variety of activities and/or school environments (e.g. classroom playground etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Ability to create development- and age-appropriate activities preferred
Ability to operate standard office equipment and pertinent software applications required
Excellent oral and written communication skills required
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records required
Ability to effectively multitask required
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing this jobs functions requires the following physical demands: some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping kneeling sitting crouching and/or crawling; significant finger dexterity. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations in a generally hazard-free environment and in varying atmospheric conditions.
