Krero m te tranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for two Health Wellbeing and Safety Business Partners to join the Health Wellbeing and Safety (HWS) team on a permanent full-time basis. We are growing our capability and capacity in HWS functions at the University and are looking for innovative energetic and experienced professionals to join the team.

In 2024 we launched Kia Haumaru Kia Matat - the Health Safety and Wellbeing Strategy. This Strategy provides us with a clear focus that will enable us to achieve our vision of having a healthy and thriving community where all who moor their waka with us are safe and well.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist and strategic advice and practical guidance to Faculties and Central service units (CSU) and be a trusted partner to those Faculties and CSU.
  • Understand the key risks and tasks that are associated with the Faculty or CSUs to better help them manage the risks.
  • Co-own the delivery of the Critical Risks program with other members of the HWS team.
  • Provide coaching to the line managers to help them support our Kaimahi Staff with physical and mental health issues.
  • Support and feedback to the Systems Performance and Assurance lead information that enhance our event reporting and learning.
  • Continuously look for opportunities to coach and enable the Mata awhirangi - Managers and their teams to improve.

pmanawa - About you

You will be a health wellbeing and safety professional with experience in coaching developing and supporting operational managers in a large and complex workplace. You will be able to think strategically and adapt to prioritise workstreams in response to your customer needs while always having an eye on the big picture. Excellent relationship building and communication skills and the ability to coach others across a broad spectrum of topics relating to HWS is essential in this role.

You will also be a highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to a high performing team. The ideal candidate will have effective time management and forward planning to balance planning guidance and training services to staff at all levels of the University. You will be seen by your business partners as someone who gets things done.

Key requirements:

  • Proven understanding of risk management principles and practices with experience of providing practical advice to organisational leaders andMata awhirangi Managers.
  • Experience advising and supporting senior leaders in a large complex organisation.
  • Demonstrate recent experience in leading HWS change programs and support HWS leadership models (within a HWS Strategy).
  • Outstanding people and communication skills including the ability to adjust to different audiences.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Capability to work as part of a team as well as having individual responsibilities.
