Job Description

In collaboration with physician(s) provide independent acute and/or routine medical care to a patients and families enrolled in Primary Care Medicine. Writes appropriate orders if/when applicable. Practices safety environmental and/or infection control methods. Coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the clinic. Writes progress notes in EMR indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed. Provides health education to patients families and/or community health practitioners and groups. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs current literature in-service meetings and workshop. May perform clinical research related to specific operations. Provides support and consultation in the event of public health outbreaks and/or emergencies. Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

Compensation:

$30000 annually for 12-month part-time (20 hour/week) appointment.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelors degree; completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistant program; and Michigan state licensure and continued certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA). -OR- masters degree in nursing; licensure as a Certified Nurse Practitioner; licensure as a Registered Nurse.

  • BCLS Certification.

  • Five (5) years of experience caring for traditionally underserved vulnerable populations.

  • Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.

  • Knowledge of drugs and their indications contraindications dosing side effects and proper administration.

  • Ability to maintain quality safety and/or infection control standards.

  • Ability to perform medical examinations using standard medical procedures.

  • Life support as required through privileging.

  • Ability to clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners and/or the general public.

  • Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.

  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies techniques issues and approaches in area of expertise.

  • Ability to communicate therapeutically with patients and families.

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.

  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions.

  • Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records.

  • Knowledge of primary care principles and practices.

Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • College Health Experience or other experience working in Higher Education.

Working Conditions:

Clinical office environment. 20 hours per week.
