JOB TITLE: Finance Specialist WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Business & Finance
DEPT. /SCHOOL: Business Office DATE REVISED: August 2025
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
This role will support our department with procurement processes including managing purchase order approvals. This role will also assist with related administrative functions such as workers compensation contracts and other departmental duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will be organized adaptable and comfortable working across multiple financial areas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Some college hours preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of purchasing and/or procurement
Effective communication organization and interpersonal skills
Effective math reading and writing skills
Ability to use software such as Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint Google applications
Familiar with Workers compensation process
Familiarity with Skyward
Experience:
Two years of clerical experience or equivalent with an understanding of procurement procedures purchasing accounts payable worker compensation preferably in a public education environment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
EQUIPMENT USED:
Use of a calculator computer copier and scanner are expected routinely. You may be expected to learn and operate other equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be willing and able to report to work at the designated work site on a regular daily basis according to an established work schedule.
Must be flexible to work during holidays after hours and weekends when necessary to comply with deadlines.
Mental Demands:
Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written); strong cognitive thinking skills; ability to operate computers; ability to work in a highly confidential area; attention to detail to avoid errors and; maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
This position requires regular sitting walking standing reading seeing speaking hearing listening organizing interpreting data and information operating office equipment typing using a computer keyboard and mouse viewing a computer screen monitor and use of a telephone. The working environment consists of an indoor and climate-controlled setting the majority of the time. There may be some district and some statewide travel in personal vehicles; some prolonged and irregular hours.
