Description of Job

Qualified candidates may receive academic credit through their college or university. *Check with your schools Internship Coordinator BEFORE accepting the hiring offer to determine if this position satisfies the criteria for receiving academic credit.

Desired Schedule: 12 hours/week (144 total). Fixed hours Fall Semester 2025 only.

Broad Scope of Position: The Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation is seeking a qualified intern to join our SIPA Digitization team. This team focuses on the digitization of the various backlogs of physical documents stored at History Colorado and off-site storage locations. This team is seeking an intern to assist in this effort by working with volunteers ensuring adherence to data practices reviewing volunteer work for quality and coordinating with staff on digitization needs. This intern should be prepared to work in a leadership role and will finish the internship having gained broad experience with a variety of common issues in legacy data sets and team management.
Responsibilities:

Outcomes: By the completion of this volunteer internship position the intern will learn how to:

  • Identify and define common archaeological terms used in recording sites
  • Apply sound data processing techniques to problematic data sets
  • Produce high-quality documents using PaperStream Capture Excel and Adobe Acrobat
  • Demonstrate multi-channel communication skills
  • Serve as a team leader in an office
  • Provide feedback in a constructive manner
  • Identify team member strengths and weaknesses
  • Develop a working knowledge of the methodologies used for the remediation of legacy data

Desired Skills & Academic Field of Study: Recommended for students enrolled in Anthropology Archaeology History Museum Studies or a related field program.Students and recent graduates with completed coursework in archaeology or with knowledge of museum data management practices are highly preferred.
