Summary of Job Duties:

The Assistant Director consults with and collaborates with faculty students other campus stakeholders and outside entities regarding Universal Design reframing disability and other relevant issues. Facilitate access via accommodations including those related to communication the physical environment print materials and technology. This position reports to the Director of the Disability Resource Center. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors degree;

  • Two years of experience in the disability field preferably in higher education;

  • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in a higher education setting.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Masters degree;

  • Understanding of the intersection of information technology and disability and experience in identifying and removing barriers;

  • Proficient in sign language.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Student responsibilities

    • Meet and collaborate with students to determine appropriate accommodations including those related to communication the physical environment print materials and technology;

    • Assist with the acquisition of textbooks in alternate formats as needed.

    • Facilitate in-person and online groups for students in areas such as using adaptive technology and self-advocacy;

    • Provide technical assistance to students using Assistive Technology;

    • Refer students to other relevant resources on campus.

  • Administrative responsibilities

    • Contribute to content revisions for departmental publications;

    • Contribute to the writing of grant proposals to receive funding for initiatives that support the creation of more usable inclusive and sustainable learning environments;

    • Maintain student records by documenting communications with and regarding students recording recommended course of action or accommodations and collecting documentation provided by the student;

    • Supervise practicum intern and graduate assistants;

    • Participate in strategic plan activities;

    • Create needed reports from AIM;

    • Contribute to university reporting requirements.

  • Campus responsibilities

    • Consult and collaborate with faculty other campus stakeholders and outside entities regarding Universal Design and reframing disability.

    • Conduct workshops and conference presentations;

    • Coordinate educational programming for the campus around issues of access and disability;

    • Coordinate proactive approaches to comprehensive accessibility for campus events;

    • Establish collaborative relationships by serving on campus committees as appropriate;

    • Provide training and technical assistance to faculty staff administrators and students.

  • Other

    • Represent UA Little Rock locally and nationally by providing technical assistance and networking with other institutions and agencies;

    • Perform other related duties as required.
