Job Description

The Alibaba-NTU Global e-Sustainability CorpLab (ANGEL) represents a key collaboration between Alibaba Group and Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Supported by the Singapore RIE2025 Fund ANGEL creates and deploys impactful green digital technologies for global sustainability.

ANGELs mission aligns seamlessly with Singapores national objectives such as the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and the Singapore Smart Nation Initiative. ANGELs work in developing sustainable and equitable digital solutions and promoting a sustainable and green lifestyle will contribute to a smaller carbon footprint. Its holistic approach will help to secure a brighter more sustainable future for humanity.

ANGEL is looking for a Research Engineer/Research Scientist to support research work under the project Urban Sustainability which aims to develop a suite of techniques for efficiently and effectively building new digital infrastructure of city scenes managing all city data in a high definition and 3D/4D referencing system and performing simulation interaction and analysis on the digital twin city model. Specifically the Research Engineer/Research Scientist will work on city-scale digital twin of road traffic to increase sustainability. Achieving this goal requires accurate and up-to-date models of current real-world traffic conditions as well as methods for fast simulation to support real-time decision making and what-if analyses. Hence methods will be developed for fast data-driven creation and calibration of traffic models with an emphasis on approaches for data assimilation from real-time sources. Intelligent scheduling mechanisms to execute simulation runs in the cloud will ensure timely results together with new approaches to support the parallelization of individual simulations by model analysis variable model fidelity and the use of hardware accelerators such as graphics processing units (GPUs).

Job Description:

  • To support research work under the project Urban Sustainability and support research on work on city-scale digital twin of road traffic to increase sustainability.

  • Work on developing accurate and up-to-date models of current real-world traffic conditions as well as methods for fast simulation to support real-time decision making and what-if analyses.

  • To conduct high-quality research on algorithm design analysis and performance evaluation and publish research outcomes in top tier conferences and journals.

Job Requirements:

  • MEng/PhD degree in computer science or related field

  • Strong scientific publication record for Research Scientist position

  • Excellent programming skills and experience in large system development

  • Ability to work independently and with a large team

  • Excellent analytical technical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Previous experience with modeling and simulation data science and/or machine learning parallel and distributed computing or hardware accelerators will be advantageous
