Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

South Platte Renew is a water resource recovery facility owned and operated by the cities of Littleton and Englewood. The Class A CDL Driver is an integral part of the Operations and Maintenance Division and is responsible for the safe transportation of grit & biosolids while following federal state and county regulations.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

The Class A CDL Driver reports to the Beneficial Use Supervisor and has no direct reports or supervisory responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The listed examples of work are not intended to be all-inclusive. They may be modified with additions deletions or changes as necessary.

Works under the direction of the Beneficial Use Supervisor in accordance with the SPR Written Operating Plan including but not limited to the following:

Essential Duties

  • Adheres to the requirements in the most current and applicable version of City of Englewood Administrative Policy Manual and/or the Englewood Employees Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Participates in safety equipment and process training to learn about safe equipment operation and process and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Reports and/or corrects unsafe unhealthful workplace conditions or hazards. Understands and complies with applicable safety security and emergency response policies and procedures and models safe employee conduct.
  • Maintains satisfactory and harmonious relationships with the public and other employees; exhibits a high degree of professionalism initiative & tact on an ongoing and continual basis.
  • Inspects and maintains complete vehicle condition and truck checklist documentation to ensure proper transportation safety compliance with D.O.T. regulations.
  • Performs pre-trip inspections and Job Hazard Analyses as needed.
  • Works with operations staff to load biosolids into trucks.
  • Transports tractor-trailers loaded with biosolids ensuring that weight and safety regulations are met from Englewood to Byers Monday through Friday.
  • Works with operations staff as needed to transport 10 yard dump trucks loaded with grit and solids to the landfill typically one to two times per week.
  • Interprets roads and weather conditions as needed communicates anomalies to the Beneficial Use Supervisor.
  • Identifies needed repairs and communicates to the Beneficial Use supervisor as necessary to keep trucks running.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots basic maintenance of trucks & trailers.
  • Reports emergency and major malfunctions to Beneficial Use Supervisor.
  • Helps Beneficial Use Supervisor maintain inventory.
  • Performs and oversees cleanup and housekeeping of work areas equipment and buildings using standard cleaning equipment materials and cleaning procedures.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • May occasionally with appropriate training operate heavy equipment on plant facility and farm sites including front-end loader forklift semi-tractor trailer skid-steer soil sampling equipment and farm tractors.
  • Grit removal on-site pad cleaning debris cleaning and transportation to landfill.
  • Attends trainings and required work events as required by the City of Englewood.
  • Works with other City departments and outside vendors as needed
  • Assists with special projects or committees and performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Education or GED.
  • Minimum one-year experience in Class A CDL truck-trailer operation 2 years preferred.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment and farm equipment mechanical background and aptitude or willingness to learn.
  • Must maintain a clean driving record and current State of Colorado drivers license.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge

Working knowledge of:

  • Operation of tractor-trailer trucks and 10-yard trucks in a safe manner.
  • Federal state and local transportation regulations.
  • Bad weather conditions and off-road driving.
  • CDOT Safety Guidelines.

Skills and Abilities

  • Computer Skills - Advanced computer skills required to work in a high technology environment. Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Office products.
  • Communication Skills - Advanced customer service skills required to interact with other departments outside venders and staff. Also required to be able to provide direction and guide employees at Beneficial Use Supervisors request. General communications in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Analytical Skills - Advanced analytical skills required to diagnose troubleshoot and/or adjust processes or machinery performance in response to routine and emergency situations.
  • Mechanical Skills - Intermediate mechanical skills required to understand design and operation of trucks and trailers.
  • General Management Skills Day to Day operations and for policy and procedure development and administration.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work performed inside and outside sometimes alone in the field and in tractor-trailer and 10-yard trucks. Works near moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment; exposed to fumes airborne particles pathogens and various chemicals some of which may be toxic. Requires extensive sitting walking carrying lifting kneeling bending reaching and squatting. May be required to lift up to 75 pounds. Major activities are performed on level slippery sloping unstable and uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions. May be exposed to extreme cold heat heights temperature swings constant noise mechanical and electrical hazards fumes odors & chemicals. Work is performed in an office outside and in an industrial environment. Occasional after hours on-call nights weekends or holiday work may be required.

HOURLY RATE

$25.21 - $42.74/Hourly Pay Rate

This is a full time position.
