Job Description:

Summary:

The Office of Research at American University is seeking a detail-oriented and tech-savvy graduate student to assist in the creation of a centralized Funding Announcement Database. This database will serve as a critical tool to help AU faculty and staff access timely funding opportunities across disciplines and sponsors.

The Graduate Funding Announcement Database Assistant will play a key role in developing and maintaining an organized searchable system that captures and categorizes grant and funding announcements from a variety of sources.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and compile funding opportunities from federal agencies private foundations and institutional sources.

  • Extract standardize and input data into a structured database (e.g. MS Access).

  • Tag opportunities by discipline eligibility due dates and type of funding (e.g. seed funding fellowships research grants).

  • Ensure the database is easily searchable and user-friendly for AU stakeholders.

  • Maintain up-to-date entries and assist with periodic quality checks.

  • Collaborate with the Office of Research to identify priority areas and refine database structure as needed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-Time.

  • Current AU Graduate Student.

Salary Range:

  • $18.00 - $19.00 per hour depending on experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Current AU graduate student.

  • Experience with creating and maintaining databases is a must.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Comfort working with spreadsheets or databases.

  • Excellent research and data entry skills.

  • Ability to follow structured workflows and maintain consistent data formatting.

  • Interest in research administration grants or higher education preferred.
