Description

Position Summary:

Iona University an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) seeks a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as Head Coach for its newly reinstated varsity Mens and Womens Tennis programs. This is a full-time 12-month position reporting directly to the Director of Athletics. The Head Coach will be responsible for building and sustaining competitive tennis programs ensuring the holistic development of student-athletes and fostering a culture of academic excellence sportsmanship and competitive success.

The reinstatement of both tennis programs marks an exciting new chapter in Ionas proud tennis history. Mens tennis began in 1953 capturing multiple league titles and producing three undefeated seasons in the 1970s. Womens tennis launched in 1979 becoming a charter member of MAAC womens tennis and earning strong league finishes. Both programs last competed at the varsity level in 2003 now its time to write the next chapter.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Program Development:
    • Lead the reestablishment of the Mens and Womens Tennis programs beginning with infrastructure building recruiting and organizing practice and conditioning sessions.
    • Establish a clear and compelling vision for the future of Iona tennis.
  • Training & Competition:
    • Plan prepare and execute effective practice sessions and match strategies to maximize student-athlete performance.
    • Design and implement a competitive schedule that fosters athlete development and elevates program reputation.
    • Represent Iona University in a positive and professional manner with officials opponents parents media and the public.
  • Recruiting:
    • Identify and recruit student-athletes who demonstrate both academic and athletic excellence in full compliance with NCAA MAAC and institutional guidelines.
  • Budgeting & Fundraising:
    • Work within approved budgetary parameters and participate in budget formulation.
    • Partner with the Athletics Development team to meet program fundraising goals and cultivate alumni and community support.
  • Compliance & Administration:
    • Ensure adherence to all NCAA MAAC and University rules and regulations including those related to eligibility recruiting financial aid and academic progress.
    • Assist in preparing required compliance documentation.
  • Staff Management:
    • Hire supervise mentor and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in coaching and recruiting at the collegiate level preferably NCAA Division I.
  • Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Proven ability to foster a positive team culture focused on academic achievement competitive excellence and personal growth.
  • Excellent organizational communication and leadership skills.
