Job Description
The Vera C. Rubin Observatory is entering the exciting phase of integration and commissioning and is expected to become operational this year. The project is seeking a qualifiedElectrical Technician. This hands-on role will support the installation reliability and safety of the observatorys low-voltage and weak-current electrical systems. The role emphasizes correct installation practices compliance with electrical standards troubleshooting and collaboration with both in-house teams and external contractors.
Essential Functions:
Perform assigned electrical work and installations correctly under the supervision of the Summit Electrical Lead.
Install a wide range of electrical systems and components including wiring conduits boxes cable trays panels outlets lighting switches and other general or subsystem-specific equipment.
Support the Site Manager and Safety Officer in complying with organizational safety procedures and applicable regulatory standards.
Ensure that all electrical work complies with project plans documentation and instructions as well as with Chilean Electrical Norms and other applicable standards.
Work and collaborate effectively with others on the team.
Align work in their area with institutional goals strategic plans and core values.
Comply with occupational health and safety standards established for their area of responsibility.
Participate in continuous improvement processes and user-focused service.
Act with professionalism and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing training and development.
Specific Competencies:
Install both fixed and mobile electrical equipment.
Modify or build new or existing conduit systems to optimize resource use.
Perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment.
Build and assemble medium-scale electrical panels as needed.
Repair unforeseen electrical faults that pose a risk to people or facilities.
Inspect the electrical conditions of equipment and devices to resolve any issues caused by poor conditions.
Identify appropriate wiring for the installation of electrical equipment and systems.
Comply with institutional safety procedures and Chilean electrical codes.
Carry out electrical installations for lighting power IT systems and weak-current circuits.
Measure and construct ground grids (earthing systems) low-voltage and IT grounding.
Perform any similar tasks requested by their direct supervisor.
Complete tool checklists and follow established work procedures for each task.
Requirements:
Technical education in electricity at a higher technical level with SEC certification (Class D C or B).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical installations for construction or assembly projects.
Ability to work daily at a high-altitude construction site (2700 meters above sea level).
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills across all levels of the project.
Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Microsoft Office (Excel Word) is desirable.
Proficiency in spoken and written Spanish including professional email communication.
Basic communication skills in English are beneficial but not required.
Previous experience with electrical installations for observatories is a plus but not mandatory.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work at altitudes up to 2700 mt.
- Must meet physical requirements (lifting climbing crawling etc)
