This position reports to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and provides facility maintenance support to a multi-custody female correctional facility. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  1. Performing preventive and routine corrective maintenance tasks ensuring that assigned systems equipment and facilities are maintained in a safe and efficient manner.
  2. Requiring to have multiple trade skills to allow the individual to deal with the variety of maintenance tasks that will have to be dealt with on a routine basis at a correctional facility.
  3. Performing at the semi-skilled level for various maintenance trades as required.
  4. Supervising skilled semi-skilled and unskilled labor. (including offenders) to assist in completing assigned tasks.



About Anson Correctional Institution:
Anson Correctional Institution houses female offenders in close and medium custody housing units. Anson CI offers a wide variety of educational vocational and training programs. Correction Enterprises operates the offender packaging operation at Anson a partnership with Union Supply Direct through the Prison Industry Enhancement Program (PIE). Family and friends can order a package of goods from a pre-approved shopping list to send to an offender. Orders are packaged by offenders and shipped quarterly.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies


  1. Documented working knowledge of commercial/industrial maintenance.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements



High School or General Educational Development (GED) diplomaANDtwo (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas(HVAC Plumbing Electrical Mechanics Construction etc.); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations Part 82 Subpart F.

The Division of Institutionsis one of the divisions in DAC andemploys a variety of staff operates 56 institutions and is responsible for the care and custody of approximately 30000 incarcerated individuals across North Carolina. Our division categorizes the institutions into 3 custody levels which include minimum medium and close. The Division of Institutions has a duty to provide a secure and safe environment along with the proper care and supervision for every individual in our custody.
