Range Explanation:
Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills qualifications experience education licenses training and internal equity.
Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.
Pima County is looking for a full-time Rangemasterto provide safety on all of Pima County Public Shooting Ranges. This position will conduct firearms and archery safety classes and provide leadership to the range Rangemaster manages supervises and coordinates activities of the Southeast Regional Park Shooting Facility including conducting firearms and archery safety classes.
Essential Functions:
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act this classification may include any of the following tasks knowledge skills and other characteristics. Work assignments may vary depending on the departments need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.
Manages supervises and coordinates daily operation of the range;
Supervises and enforces all range firearms safety rules and regulations at the range;
Reports violations accidents or incidents related to safety infractions and issues related to public safety and range operation to appropriate management;
Makes recommendations for changes to safety procedures and future operational and management improvements;
Handles firearms and/or archery equipment in a safety-conscious manner in compliance with regulations;
Conducts classes in the use and safety precautions of firearms and/or archery equipment;
Collects monies for range items sold or rented and ensures cash handling collection and financial reports and records comply with all Pima County policies requirements and standard business practices;
Maintains records of expenditures and income collected and prepares reports;
Provides First Aid CPR and AED response if certified to do so;
Trains schedules and supervises volunteers in line safety cash handling customer service and maintenance duties;
Ensures that the facility grounds and equipment are kept clean orderly and well maintained;
Ensures range equipment perimeter and supplies are secured and opening and closure procedures are followed to ensure protection and security of facility and assets.
Minimum Qualifications:
One year (2080 hours) of experience involving the handling of rifles handguns and/or archery equipment coordinating competitive shooting/archery sports events firearms or archery training and/or safety instruction or shooting range supervision.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
OR:
One year of service with Pima County and not less than 240 hours of experience working as a Line Safety Officer volunteer with the Pima County Shooting Sports Program INCLUDING a current National Rifle Association Range Safety Officer certification.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Minimum one (1) year experience in the handling of firearms or archery in a public range law enforcement or military setting.
Minimum one (1) year experience working or volunteering as a Range Safety Officer or Line Safety Officer at a public law enforcement or military range.
Possess certification as an NRA Range Safety Officer or Chief Range Safety Officer.
Possess certification as a Military Marksmanship Instructor or NRA Certified Firearms Instructor.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver license is required at time of application.ValidAZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Possession of a First Aid Certification Card is required at time of appointment or within 14 days of hire. National Rifle Association certification as Range Safety Officer is required within one year of hire or as provided by the Pima County Natural Resources Parks & Recreation Department.
Special Notice Items:The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
