Come join our Team at Bend Parks and Recreation District!Bend Park and Recreation is looking for Instructors to teach adult and multi-generational enrichment classes.

About the job:

Enrichment Instructors provide leadership and supervision for assigned recreation program while also serving in a front-line lead role providing safe and rewarding recreational opportunities for the community. BPRD is looking for Enrichment Instructors with experience teaching the following formats to adults seniors and adults with children:

  • Arts and Crafts - mixed media jewelry-making specialized crafts
  • Performing Arts - ukulele guitar theater
  • General Enrichment - card games basic technology instruction gardening cooking drivers ed and other subjects not currently offered

A day in the life:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Instructs assigned classes programs and activities
  • Plans organizes and implements curriculum based upon overall program objectives and guidelines
  • Oversees the safety comfort and progress of participants
  • Develops rapport with participants and responds to questions concerns etc
  • Collaborates with Enrichment Supervisor to develop plan and schedule classes
  • Communicates with staff regarding facility equipment and supply needs
  • Sets up takes down and cleans-up after class as required
  • Addresses program specific risk management/safety issues
  • Facilitates inclusion of special needs participants in program
  • Manages accidents according to procedures
  • Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Schedule:

The scheduling of classes happens quarterly with class dates and times determined jointly by the instructor and the Enrichment Supervisor.

Education Experience and Training:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or vocations training with emphasis in related field preferred; AND
  2. Two (2) years of professional level experience in area of specialty with some teaching experience; OR
  3. Any satisfactory combination of education experience and training.

License and certifications:

  1. Some positions may require possession of or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire a valid First Aid/CPR certification.
  2. Some positions may require possession of or ability to obtain valid Oregon drivers license within 30 days with an acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy.

Position Specific Requirement:

This position may require reporting to additional sites throughout the workday typically achieved in a motor vehicle OR other modes of transportation. If choosing a personal vehicle possession of or ability to obtain valid Oregon drivers license within 30 days with an acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy.


If you do not have a drivers license or have an unacceptable driving history it does not disqualify you from this position only from driving a vehicle for district business.


Supervision Received:

Works under the supervision of a supervisor. Follows standard processes and procedures without supervision but confirms changes to standard practices and significant decisions in advance.


Supervision Exercised:

Supervision is not normally a responsibility of this position. However leadership and direction may be provided to volunteers.
