Job Duties
Responsibilities of the attorney include litigating in state and federal courts and administrative tribunals; providing legal advice counsel and training to the Department and the Board; attending Board meetings and providing advice and counsel to the Board; reviewing regulations pursuant to the Virginia Administrative Process Act and State Plan amendments pursuant to federal law; reviewing contracts and assisting the Department in procurement matters including high-risk contracts; and completing special projects as assigned. The daily advice provided to the Department or the Board will involve a variety of legal issues involving Medicaid and federal and state health law Medicaid managed care confidentiality and privacy laws the Virginia Freedom of Information Act the Virginia Public Procurement Act and the Virginia Administrative Process Act. This attorney will also assist in preparing official opinions responding to citizen inquiries and reviewing legislation.
