We seek a Senior Health and Safety Specialist based in Sweden.

Job overview:

This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of health and safety programs at the assigned laboratory location(s) and for facilitating a collaborative approach to implementing such programs with site management. Maintains environmental health and safety programs. Assists management team with monitoring environmental compliance and safety metrics (i.e. chemical safety ergonomics illness and injury prevention). Conducts compliance training audits and inspects sites or lab environments to ensure compliance with global occupational safety and health standards. Recommends corrective action where hazard or risk exist.

A day in the life:

Practices and enforces good safety practices. Responds to inquiries and provides follow-up to health safety and environmental issues to site management:

  • Ensures compliance with all site regulations promptly addressing any issues that arise.

  • Keeps current on regulations and updates health and safety procedures for facilitiy

  • Updates site management on new or changed regulations in a timely manner. Pro-actively makes recommendations on feasible solutions and alternatives for compliance.

  • Ensures safe removal and disposal of hazardous/biological waste from facility on a regular basis. Maintains and monitors waste manifest system. Completes reporting forms and documents for all required regulatory agencies.

  • Develops and conducts employee health and safety training programs. Develops and implements refresher training for various health and safety topics as required by the regulations.

  • Coordinates regular walk-downs and yearly self-assessments and coordinates employee health hazard exposure monitoring to ensure compliance. Coordinates all ergonomic related issues. Makes recommendations as appropriate.

  • Collaborates with corporate Compulsory Insurance (workers Compensation) Administrator to supply information on related claims to insurance company. Assists with or conducts work-related injury/illness investigation.

  • Maintains safety equipment inventory performs periodic safety inspections monitors hazardous waste removal vendors and may assist in consolidating hazardous wastes.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification

  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge skills and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 5 years).

Equivalency may be met with education training or relevant experience for role requirements.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Firm knowledge of Compulsory Insurance requirements laboratory and hazardous waste regulations to include hazardous chemical/biohazard storage and disposal regulations and for ensuring a safe work envirnment.

  • Solid understanding of air monitoring strategies

  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to provide effective training

  • Solid problem solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent judgment and business insight

  • Strong computer skills
