Job Description

Overview:

  • Full-time One-year Fixed Term position (renewable subject to funding availability)

  • Salary Academic Level B 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements

  • Based at the Melbourne CBD campus but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University

About The Position


The Research Fellow will collaborate with research teams and partners across the School and Research Centres to deliver high-quality research aligned with the Universitys strategic priorities. The role involves undertaking research and development in learning control and optimisation using variable structure systems; preparing competitive research grant applications particularly targeting Category 1 outcomes; and publishing in leading journals and conferences.

The Research Fellow will also develop proof-of-concept innovations ready for commercialisation foster collaborations with national and international researchers in areas such as energy scheduling and dispatch using artificial intelligence and contribute to the supervision of postgraduate research addition the role requires effective project management to ensure outcomes are delivered to the required standard and within agreed timeframes active dissemination of research through publications seminars and conferences and participation in annual work planning and performance management processes while performing other duties that support the efficient operation of the research team.

Mandatory: PhD or equivalent in electrical and electronic engineering and/or applied mathematics in particular in one or more areas of learning control and optimisation. Experience in dealing with variable structure systems and applications would be preferred.

The eligible applicant must be either an Australian Citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.

To be successful in this position youll have:

  • Demonstrated research track record in learning control and optimisation using variable structure systems approach including sliding mode control.

  • Publications in top-tier conferences and journals relevant to the above fields.

  • Demonstrate ability to clearly communicate research results concepts and knowledge.

  • Demonstrated initiative in research and problem solving.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a member of a research team and independently when required to meet project outcomes and milestones.

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
