Reporting to the Senior Bridge Engineer the Junior Civil / StructuralEngineer position will offer the opportunity to work on adiverse range of projects and collaborate closely with bridge engineers and theEngineering Department Manager at HHB. This successful candidate will have theopportunity to work on bridge inspections investigations constructionsupervision quality assurance project management and contract administration.The successful candidate will have experience with reading drawings forconcrete and steel structures. Experience with inspection supervision ofrehabilitation works or new construction of bridges or other types ofstructures. You will join a team that takes pride in its ability to worktogether to plan monitor complete and close challenging bridgerehabilitation projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare tender documents and specifications
Review/comment on drawings prepared by consultants
Prepare sketches and drawings
Day-to-day liaison with consultants contractors vendors and otherauthorities etc.
Prepare meeting records for tender processes project progress etc.
Prepare project schedules and estimates
Perform field engineering and site inspections
Prepare inspection reports
Prepare communication emails
Monitor the quality control processes and perform quality assurancetasks for steel concrete asphalt and coating projects
Review shop drawings technical data sheets work methods and otherproject submittals
Perform safety audits and generate safety observations when needed
Use project management software to distribute receive and controlproject documentation
Draft responses for Request for Information (RFIs)
Update tracking sheets for tracking recommendations from inspections
Drive an HHB-provided vehicle when needed for inspections and sitevisits
Coordinate Traffic Control equipment rental and Rescue Teams whenneeded for internal HHB inspections
Update the asset management system with the condition ratings fromannual and detailed inspections
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in engineering - Civil engineering preferred
Registration or eligibility for registration with Engineers Nova Scotiaas an Engineer-In-Training.
Minimum one (1) year and maximum five (5) years of relevant experienceknowledge of current design codes of practice including Bridge Code (CSAS6-19) Concrete Code (CSA A23.3) and Steel Code (CSA S16)
Strong computer skills (MS Office AutoCad and MS Project)
Ability to effectively represent HHB in front of contractorsconsultants and other authorities.
Knowledge about the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) acts andregulations.
Excellent communication skills; ability to write effective reports andmeeting records.
Possess good problem-solving skills using standard engineering methods
Capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously and have good timemanagement skills.
Experience on construction sites and dealing with contractors/consultantswould be an asset
An understanding of the commitment required to meet projectrequirements including working during nighttime and weekends if required.
Salary range: $56129- $70161 Hiring 1 position Full-time Permanent Non-Union MondayFriday 8:00 AM4:00 PM (35 hours per week)
