JOB LEVEL : Director



Background

The ISG Mainframe is 40 years old and the number of experts is decreasing over time. Systems are overly complex dependent on outdated technology and expensive. The Legacy Modernization Program mission is to renovate mainframe platforms to improve resiliency and time to market and enable meeting the challenges of scale and complexity over time as well as mitigating expertise attrition risk to the firm reducing risk by decommissioning the ISG mainframe.


The Team

At Morgan Stanley our Legacy Modernization team plays a crucial role in transforming our technology landscape. We support analyze and provide metrics to expedite our renovation work transitioning away from the ISG-Mainframe platform ensuring a seamless integration with modern systems.


Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Analyst and mainframe developer to lead our central team mainframe retirement initiatives. This role is pivotal in directing the efforts of development teams and ensuring the seamless renovation and decommissioning of mainframe systems as part of the broader Legacy Modernization Program.


Key Responsibilities:

- Oversee and advise distributed teams on replacement risks and limitations.

- Develop interfaces between distributed systems and mainframe reference tables to ensure seamless data integration and accessibility.

- Collaborate with various teams to support analysis and development needs directly overseeing development work on distributed systems.

- Manage and track program progress maintaining close oversight of our metrics and dependency trackers.

- Participate in Development Testing Troubleshooting activities where needed.

- Facilitate regular meetings to enhance accountability and visibility across decommissioning workstreams with key stakeholders.

- Conduct comprehensive analysis of varied mainframe resources across all departments.

- Manage dependencies between departments to facilitate smooth transitions and integration.

- Identify and address potential challenges in the decommissioning process.

- Help lead the decommissioning of mainframe systems ensuring alignment with our overall renovation strategy.

- Metrics development and automation and investigation/analysis. Required Skills and Experience:


- Minimum of 10 years of hand-on technical experience with mainframe systems.

- Proficiency in mainframe development particularly with Natural/Adabas.

- In-depth knowledge of ISG-specific tools like ICUA FAU RFUC FMOD CICS DB2 VSAM JCL.

- Ability to develop and implement interfaces between distributed and mainframe systems using Shadow and MQ.

- Strong understanding of MS system relationships and roles as mapped in TAI and MRC.

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate and engage effectively with stakeholders across teams and organizations at different levels.

- Program management skills particularly in managing complex legacy system decommissioning initiatives.

- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

- Strong Excel Skills - Excel VBA

- System design skills

- Aptitude in gathering analysis and transform of data for Metric delivery

- Distributed knowledge and experience is strongly preferred.
