Job Description

SUMMARY:

Support of local K-12 schools through various programs including America Reads Lets Be Kind Safe Communities Safe Kids and others. Applicant must be federal work study (FWS) eligible.

See description below:

  • AMERICA READS PROGRAM: America Reads is a program initiative at College Park Elementary (Costa Mesa) to serve as a school aide and tutor during school hours (8:30-2:30pm). Must be available 10-20 hours a week Monday thru Friday.
  • LETS BE KIND PROGRAM: Lets be Kind is a non-profit dedicated to promoting kindness and building a positive environment particularly within K-12 school campuses. You will engage in workshops and teaching using the LBK curriculum. Days/week and hours/wk vary depending on availability.
  • SAFE COMMUNITIES SAFE KIDS: The Global Center for Women & Justice (GCWJ) at Vanguard University has launched the Safe Communities; Safe Kids program to directly address the severe threat of human trafficking in Orange County by delivering expert-led prevention education and trauma-informed training for students and educators at no cost. You will participate in training and deliver with classroom teachers to deliver age-appropriate instruction on human trafficking online safety and healthy relationships.
  • EDUCATION CONFERENCE: Serve as a student worker to support a local education conference with various tasks including registration setup/teardown welcome and other logistical support. One conference is Oct 10-11th (Day 1: 10:30am-6pm) and (Day 2: 7:00am-4:30pm).
  • OTHER K-12 TEACHING SUPPORT PROGRAMS: Specific students in ITEP in the Teaching Credentialing portion are eligible to apply for this FWS program allowing their student teaching hours to count towards hours for this job opportunity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Instructional Support & Lesson Delivery - Assist classroom teachers in implementing curriculum deliver age-appropriate educational content and provide tutoring support to enhance student learning outcomes across various K-12 programs.
  • Student Engagement & Mentorship - Build positive relationships with students through active listening encouragement and guidance while fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic and social development.
  • Program Implementation & Coordination - Support multiple educational initiatives by following established protocols participating in required training sessions and adapting to diverse program requirements and scheduling needs.
  • Communication & Collaboration - Maintain effective communication with teachers staff students and program coordinators while demonstrating professionalism and discretion in all interactions within the school environment.
  • Administrative & Logistical Support - Assist with event coordination classroom preparation materials management and other operational tasks that ensure smooth program delivery and positive educational experiences for all participants.

REQUIRED DATES:

May involve training meetings TBD to coordinate with applicants schedule

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Current student enrolled at Vanguard University in good standing.
  • Must be federal work study eligible (this will be checked upon application process)
  • Vibrant belief in Jesus Christ with ample evidence of personal discipleship.
  • Preferred Major/Minor: Liberal Studies ITEP and any student interested in Education Child Development and Psychology
  • Maintain minimum grade point average of 2.0 each term.
  • Detail-oriented able to prioritize duties and handle routine tasks with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated commitment as a team player to support and collaborate with faculty staff peers and external constituents as well as the initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that will result in effective collaboration.

COMPENSATION:

This position is 10-15 hours per week at a rate of $17 per hour.
