Description

The Town of Eries Recreation team is looking a passionate organized and motivated individual to join us as our newest Recreation Assistantfor the General Interest area!

The Recreation Assistant plays a crucial role in our operations helping the Recreation Coordinator organize manage schedule and promote in the areas of Camp Erie Teen Programs Climbing Wall and other general interest areas.

This individual will assist with operational and administrative details of the general interest area and will need to be able to work with considerable independence within the scope of established policies and procedures.

Work Hours: Monday-Friday shifts primarily typically around 20 30 hours per weekto include mornings evenings and weekends as needed; not to exceed an average of 130 hours/month on average.

  • Schedule may vary depending on program specific needs including increased shifts during the summer months.

Primary Work Location: Erie Community Center

  • This position is 100% in-person and not eligible for remote work

Part-Time Hourly

Hiring Range:

$21.62/hr - $24.32/hr

Full Range:

$21.62/hr - $27.02/hr

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assistant Duties

  • Assists recreation staff in developing organizing scheduling promoting and leading Camp Erie teen programming climbing wall and other general recreation programs
  • Provides direct operational support to recreation staff which includes planning instructing purchasing staffing scheduling implementing and administration of program operations
  • Communicates professionally with patrons staff co-workers supervisors vendors and contractors to ensure smooth operations
  • Manages camp teen climbing wall and general recreation supply inventory to include preparing and collecting supplies monitoring inventory and making recommendations for new purchases
  • Assists with creating camp schedules weekly plans field trip logistics contractors and other program-related tasks
  • Assists with facilitation of teen youth council group volunteer program and local trips
  • Assists with budget tracking invoices participant payment plans and participant scholarship applications
  • Assists with state licensing compliance and record keeping for camp and camp staff
  • Completes a variety of paperwork including daily records logs and incident reports
  • Evaluates operational effectiveness and recommends new workflows and processes to improve general recreation operations and programs

  • Maintains program related records. Reports issues or concerns with inventory facility conditions policies and incidents to supervisory staff as needed
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings. Assists with training staff
  • May assist with recruiting interviewing training performance evaluation and scheduling volunteers and staff
  • Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests. Take appropriate action steps following any incidents within the facility
  • Remains composed and makes sound judgments in any emergency or non-emergency situation Responds to emergency situations administers first aid CPR or other medical attention as needed and completes incident reports
  • Serves on committees and attend meetings assigned. Tasks may include scheduling/running meetings tracking budget line items implementing staff appreciation events and other tasks as assigned
  • Demonstrates outstanding internal and external customer service by upholding PEAK (Professional Exceptional Accountable Knowledgeable) standards. Refers public to the appropriate Town contact
  • May serve or fill in for the Recreation Coordinator General Interest in their absence


Town Wide Expectations/Duties

  • Serves as a professional ambassador of the Town by maintaining a professional image a team-based collaborative approach and high ethical standards
  • Inspects facilities and program areas to ensure a safe environment. Reports safety concerns as needed
  • Interprets communicates and enforces all Department Town County State and Federal policies and procedures within areas of program responsibility
  • Completes all required safety trainings in a timely manner
  • Develops and accomplish goals and objectives to support the Department and Town mission

Other/Miscellaneous

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To support director-qualified camp staff must be able to be Camp Director qualified and a minimum of 21 years old.

Must have ONE of the following:

  • 21 months of experience in the care and supervision of four or more children over the ages of 4 who are not related to you AND either completion of six semester hours of college credit OR 40 hours of training in coursework applicable to school aged children
  • An associates degree or sixty semester college credits and plus three months verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience in the care and supervision of four or more children who are not related to you.
  • A Bachelors Masters or Doctorate degree in on of the following areas: Child development Psychology Education Family and Human Development Recreation or Human Services

A combination of education and experience may be considered.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Day Camp
  • Experience with Climbing Walls
  • Two years of customer service recreation or related experience

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS

  • Ability to obtain CPR First Aid and AED certification within 3 months of hire
  • Valid drivers license and satisfactory driving record required
  • All certifications and training required for State Licensing Compliance or ability to obtain within three months of hire.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of: To perform this job successfully an individual must demonstrate leadership and communication skills and must possess knowledge of the principles practices trends and methods of recreational operations and programming in a community setting. Knowledge of guidelines and regulations related to Department Town County State and Federal policies and procedures also required.

Skills in: Initiative and decision-making; verbal and written communication; leadership and interpersonal relationships; basic financial methods of recreational programming; outstanding customer service to a diverse population; administrative functions; time management meeting deadlines responding to internal and external requests in a timely manner; the use of standard office equipment computers and various software programs; positive and professional working relationships with all Town staff and the community; conflict resolution; comprehending instruction correspondence and policies and procedures; problem solving; remaining composed in emergency situations and working effectively under stressful circumstances; performing CPR First Aid and AED to level of certification.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in both indoor recreational facility environments and outdoor settings. During camp programs the employee may spend approximately 3 hours per day outdoors which may include exposure to varying weather conditions. Work may involve competing demands and performing multiple tasks.

Physical Factors

This role requires frequent sitting (up to 6 hours per day) and standing for up to 2 hours per day. Walking is required frequently especially during camp for up to five hours per day. The position involves approximately 7 hours of repetitive motion tasks such as typing occasional bending to interact with children and light grasping of objects such as pencils for short periods. This position requires occasional lifting of light objects once per week and may perform occasional reaching pushing or pulling of light items. No climbing running work at heights or operation of power equipment is required.
