Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

STUDENT RESEARCH FELLOW

Part-time hourly paid student research fellow to track outcomes of expungement and consumer cases. The position is temporary hourly paid student position for the current 2025-2026 school year. It may be eligible for renewal subject to funding and the agreement of LAS and the Fellow. The Fellow may work up to 20 hours per week. Specific hourly schedule to be determined based on need of LAS and students availability.

Purpose of the job: Assist Legal Aid Society in developing and implementing processes totrack and analyze outcomes of expungement and consumer cases.
Work environment: Work is performed in the office setting and in the community.
Reports to Advocacy Director or other designated manager.
Essential job functions:

  1. Contact former clients and gather data on the impact of Legal Aids advocacy with respect to their health safety and stability.
  2. Maintain accurate files and data.
  3. Synthesize and analyze data.
  4. Offer recommendations based on data and findings.
  5. Offer recommendations to improve tracking procedures for current and future cases.
  6. Prepare reports and complete forms required by program policies.
  7. Participate in program activities as applicable and upon request.
  8. Perform other duties commensurate with duties outlined above at the discretion of his or her supervisor.

Qualifications

  1. Must have demonstrable commitment to understanding and addressing issues of low-income constituents.
  2. Must have a Bachelors Degree. Law school students Social Work graduate students Justice Administration graduate students or similar public service graduate students with an interest in public interest law are preferred.
  3. Must have skills to use office technologies including case management software.
  4. Second language skills highly valued.

Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools controls or equipment; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop kneel crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
