Position Summary/Purpose:
Grand Canyon University (GCU) maintains relationships with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) by virtue of their charitable programs. The collective mission of 501(c)(3) organizations in the Phoenix Valley is to improve the quality of life for community residents or to solve particular problems related to those residents needs.
GCU maintains a partnership with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul located at 2120 S. 3rd Drive Phoenix AZ 85003. St. Vincent de Paul provides services to the homeless food boxes for the food-insecure medical/dental care for uninsured patients and housing/shelter for the unhoused. The CSLP student workers work schedule is dependent on the hours of operations and needs of St. Vincent de Paul; however CSLP student workers may not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year (i.e. fall/spring).
CSLP: This position has been reviewed and approved as Community Service as defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b). Per 34 CFR 675.2(b) community services are defined as Services which are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents particularly low-income individuals or to solve particular problems related to their need. These services must be open and accessible to the community.
As an FWS-CSLP approved position its services will be offered to non-GCU community members (i.e. local residents).
Note: All FWS and FWS-CSLP positions require applicants to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at to be reviewed for FWS-eligibility and awarded FWS.
Primary Responsibilities /Accountabilities/ Essential Functions:
Location: St. Vincent de Paul Watkins Main Campus - 2120 S. 3rd Drive Phoenix AZ 85003
Warehouse hours: Tuesday Saturday 7:00am 3:00pm
Quality Control (QC): Inspect donated canned goods for expiration dates and sort them into appropriate categories for distribution.
Scan Line Operations: Assist in scanning and sorting food items donated by outside agencies to be routed to the appropriate SVdP departments.
Inventory Support: Help manage and organize Starbucks food donations and other perishable items.
Community Food Distribution: Support setup operation and cleanup of our bi-weekly Saturday food distributions to the public.
Warehouse Operations: Use pallet jacks to move inventory sweep and maintain cleanliness and assist with general organization.
Volunteer Engagement: Lead and direct volunteer groups in various tasks ensuring a positive and productive experience for all participants.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds and be comfortable working in a warehouse environment.

Qualifications:
Strong alignment with SVdPs mission and a passion for serving the community.
Attention to detail for quality control tasks like checking expiration dates and sorting food items.
Physical stamina and the ability to lift 50 pounds in a warehouse setting.
Basic inventory and organizational skills especially for managing food donations and warehouse logistics.
Comfort using tools like pallet jacks and willingness to learn warehouse equipment.
Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Leadership potential and confidence to direct and support volunteer groups.
Flexibility and adaptability to take on a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Effective communication skills especially when working with volunteers and staff.
Must have reliable transportation.
Experience/Education:
Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore all applicants must meet the following
eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:
Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelors program or Masters program.
Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
Pay Rate: Minimum Wage
