The Graduate School and Alumni Career Advisor is a full-time in-person role dedicated to providing exceptional support for High Point University graduate students and alumni. The position offers comprehensive career counseling across various industries and career stages delivering personalized guidance and strategic career planning. The advisor will also design tailored programs to promote professional growth expand employment opportunities and foster lifelong career success.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Masters degree in Counseling Higher Education Administration Career Development or a related field required; professional certifications (e.g. NCC GCDF) preferred.
Experience and Training
- Minimum of 5 years of experience providing career counseling to graduate students and/or alumni in a higher education setting.
Knowledge Skills Ability:
- Demonstrated knowledge of career development theories tools and best practices tailored to both graduate and alumni populations.
- Strong interpersonal communication and coaching skills with a proven ability to build trust and rapport across various demographics.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in using career services technology online platforms and social media for outreach and engagement.
- Commitment to supporting various populations and fostering an accepting environment.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as necessary to support student and alumni events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conducts individual career counseling sessions with graduate students and alumni to assess career goals interests and development needs.
- Develops and implements customized career development plans including job search strategies resume and cover letter writing networking and interview preparation.
- Stays current on industry trends job market insights and graduate/professional school admission processes to provide up-to-date advice.
- Plans and delivers workshops seminars and webinars on career-related topics including personal branding LinkedIn optimization and career transitions.
- Collaborates with academic departments alumni associations and external partners to enhance career services and create networking opportunities.
- Fosters relationships with employers alumni and industry professionals to expand job and internship opportunities.
- Utilizes career assessment tools and other resources to help clients identify strengths values and potential career paths.
- Maintains accurate and confidential records of student and alumni interactions using appropriate databases and tracking systems.
- Supports alumni engagement by organizing events such as job fairs mentorship programs and networking initiatives.
- Serves as a resource and advisor for alumni navigating career challenges or transitions.
